The Rotary Club of Ottawa South has sent CAN$19,990 to the Rotary Club of Dominica for the purchase of material for the Coulibistrie Primary School.

The school was totally flooded during the passage of Tropical Storm Erika and all school supplies, book, and furniture were destroyed.

The money will go towards buying laptops, reference books for teachers, four months of Remedial School Program, 12 atlases, and three globes.

The primary school students of the Coulibistrie community currently attend school at the neighboring Salisbury Primary School on a shift system, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Officials of the Ministry of Education indicated that plans are well advanced for the vertical extension of the Salisbury Primary School building to accommodate the students of Coulibistrie.

The Rotary Club of Ottawa South said the total estimated cost to replace all materials and equipment lost is US$79,000 and it continues to support the initiative of assisting the school. It said it is accepting donations on the matter.

“A big thank you to all who have donated and/or helped to raise these funds,” the club said. “$12,800 was raised through the community and additional funds were contributed by the Rotary Club of Ottawa South, the Rotary Club of Chesterville and a Rotary District 7040 grant.”
