Sabilla Luke is a proud representative of the Dominica Club in this year’s Portraits of Excellence Scholarship and Gala event at the University of the Southern Caribbean in Trinidad.
The event is held under the theme “Responsible Advocacy: The tool for social transmission.”
Delegates were to identify an issue of social concern and develop an intervention strategy that can be employed to resolve the issue.
Seventeen-year-old Luke focuses on the changing role of women in the Caribbean society and firmly believes that our Caribbean women can accept a greater level of social responsibility and are just as capable of fulfilling duties outside of the home as men can.
In response to this issue, an intervention strategy geared towards empowering women to be positive advocates of change was developed. This involves trust funds, educational scholarships, workshops and symposiums that can be established by governmental and private institutions.
At such a tender age, Luke is already on her second year of pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Accounting at the University of the Southern Caribbean. She plans to further her studies by pursuing her Masters in Accounting. It is her dream to become a Chief Executive Officer and to contribute towards the corporate development of her beloved home country, Dominica, through the establishment of an accounting firm one day. Coming from the village of St. Joseph in the Nature Isle, she is a goal oriented, energetic and a talented young woman who strives for success.
The event is carded for the 18th of March 2012 where Luke is expected to deliver a talent piece and a creative cultural display. As part of the requirements for the event, she has also presented a research paper and engaged in community development projects like outreach programs and a rally pertaining to the said topic.
Luke and the other members of the Dominica Club solicit your virtual support as she takes a patriotic stand and vies for the title of Miss. USC.
