SAT Communications LTD gives helping hand to Operation Youth Quake

Miss Earlene Labbassiere of SAT Communication presenting the cheque to Mr Lennox Abraham of Operation Youth Quake

Through the generosity of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA), Operation Youth Quake is the recipient of a monetary grant from the association’s 2011 charities program.

SAT Telecommunications Ltd., the only local cable provider on the island and member of the CCTA, nominates a charity for the grant on an annual basis.

Earlene Labassiere, representative from SAT Telecommunications Ltd presented a cheque of US$1,000 to Mr. Lennox Abraham, Director of Operation Youth Quake, on Tuesday, to aid the institution in their youth development thrust.

“The Operation Youth Quake has been the giving hands to many of Dominica’s inopportune young people. SAT Telecoms has recognized these efforts and would like to show continued support through a monetary contribution today. At SAT Telecoms we believe that the best service to any child, is the service closest to that child, and the children who are victims of neglect, abuse or abandonment must not also be victims of a country. Every child deserves our devoted attention, and nurturing, and as corporate citizens, we are committed to charitable causes,” says Labassiere.

Ms Labassiere said that SAT  Telecoms, Dominica’s number one cable TV company, does not only provide affordable cable television and internet services, but the company believes that investing in the young people of Dominica is an investment in the country’s future.

According to her, “We have been an advocate for the work of the Operation Youth Quake and as such will continue to support the organization and other organizations like it who have as an objective the safety, protection and development of young people. We at SAT Telecoms, commend Mr Abraham and his team for the great work which they have been doing for the young people over the past years.”

For the past six years, SAT Telecoms has been successful in securing monetary contributions from external donors to be contributed to charitable organizations in Dominica. This year marks the second year that the company has chosen Operation Youth Quake for this contribution. Director of the Operation Youth Quake, Mr Lennox Abraham said that they welcome the effort made by SAT Telecoms.

“The work that we sometimes do at Operation Youth Quake is unnoticed. We were very impressed with what was said here this morning. Let me on behalf of the Board of Directors and members of staff of Operation Youth Quake, say thank you, first of all, to the management and staff of SAT Telecommunications Ltd. We also want to say thank you to CCTA, because this is not the first time that they have selected us for this donation, and this shows that they are happy with the work that we do here,” says Abraham.

For over 18 years, Operation Youth quake has provided day-care and short-term residential care to young children who are abused, deprived, neglected or in some form of crisis.

The Operation Youth Quake currently house eleven (11) young persons and is run by four part-time workers.

Previous CCTA donations have been presented to the Dominica Infirmary, the Grotto Home for the aged, Cono Abe’s Foundation and CALLS at Portsmouth.
