SDA Secondary School empowers male students

dno newsMale students of the Dominica Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School have been receiving assistance to enable them to realise their full potential.

A week of activities geared towards that objective was held at the school recently.

The week was observed under the theme “Embracing your Manhood.”

Principal, Carlotta Challenger, said the purpose of the week was to allow the young men to be empowered and take up their rightful place in society since they are often marginalised.

“The boys were encouraged to know their self-worth, embrace their manhood, and to solve problems,” Challenger said.

Some of the activities included speeches by several facilitators who spoke of their real life experiences and urged the young men to embrace their manhood amidst the various challenges that society poses.

A cooking class was held, where the young men were taught to prepare healthy protein alternatives in their diets.

“Because they are attending a religious school and we have part of our belief a health message where the body is the temple of God, we try to promote a healthy lifestyle, a healthy diet. Therefore we were teaching them alternatives to meat,” Challenger noted.

The week culminated with a male enrichment retreat which was facilitated by Pastor Ricardo Selman, Family Life Director of the East Caribbean Conference of Seventh Day Adventists.

The week came to an official end on Sunday, March3, during a consecration service at the Portsmouth SDA church.

The young men signed pledges confirming their desire to embrace their manhood in a positive manner and each participant received a certificate of participation.

Boy’s Week is held every two years and is open to all male students at the school, according to Challenger.

Oh what a blessing, wish that many more young men could take part and receive such experience, I pray that they keep their learning and become sound men of God because thats what this world desperately needs.

Boquets to the organizers, keep this good one going.

    Congratulations!
