
Seven Primary schools are set to compete in the annual Mademoiselle Francophonie pageant on March 28th 2015 at the Arawak House of Culture.
The event will close a month of activities in Dominica observing Francophone Month.
The contestants are: Jasmine Benjamin from the Warner Primary, Soul-Jah Wiggan from the Roseau Primary, Sonage Corriette from the St. Matin’s Primary, Nichole Anselm from the Grand Fond Primary, Kezzy Vigilant from Castle Bruce Primary, Jeraine Joseph representing Goodwill Primary and Reniska Caprice from the Convent Preparatory school.
They will compete in four rounds: French speech, talent, the red, white and blue round (colours of the French flag) and a presentation on their Francophone country and wearing something semi-formal.
Each participant will represent one of the following countries: Vietnam, Morocco, Egypt, Canada, Tunisia, Burundi and Rwanda.
The pageant, which is in its third year, will begin from 3:30 pm. Entrance fee is $10 for children and $15 for adults.
Last year’s winner came from the Grand Bay Primary School.
“As we know, March is the Francophone month and every year we try to do many things in Dominica and this year is no exception,” Modern Languages Coordinator in the Ministry of Education, Charlene White Christian, said at a press launch of the event. “French in the primary schools is vibrant, its well and its working.”
The month of activities is a collaboration between the Ministry of Education, the Alliance Francaise de la Dominique and the National Francophone Committee and will be held under the theme: Jeunes, Environment et Climat (Youth, Environment and Climate)

-5th Traditional Toys and Games Festival-Portsmouth
-6th Traditional Toys and Games Festival- Botanical gardens Roseau
-11th-Handing over of books for Primary and Secondary schools (Today)
-12th –Film screening of the French Canadian film, La Grande Seduction at the Alliance Francaise
-14th- Adopt a School Project-Creation of French room at the Penville Primary School
-16-20th –Primary School French Exhibitions
-18th-Primary School French Festival at the Goodwill Primary school and La Plume d’or, French language competition for students of Alliance Francaise
-20th- Journee Internationale de la Francophone-International Francophone day
(Soiree Francophonie and Awards Ceremony at the Fort Young Hotel and Secondary Schools French day at the Arawak House of Culture)
-21st-Poerty presentation by Black Kalagan and mini Francophonie food fair at the Alliance Francaise
-25-26th- Ale e Rive-Contemporary dance, choreography and dance workshops with Myriam Soulanges Dance Company at the Alliance Francaise.
-27th- Ale e Rive- contemporary dance concert at the Arawak House of Culture
-28th-Mademoiselle Francophonie pageant at the Arawak House of Culture from 3.30 pm and “24 Heures d’Orthographe” spelling competition at the Alliance Francaise
