Sister Annita Peter, principal of the St. Luke’s Primary school has credited her commitment, consistency, hard work and support, for her success as a school principal.
She was recently awarded Primary school Principal of the year at the 2012 Excellence in Education awards ceremony. She received the same award in 2011.
The Catholic nun said the award was accepted on the behalf of the school and for all those who contribute towards its development.
According to Sister Annita being the principal of St. Luke’s is more than just a job. “I remind myself that I am not doing a job. I see St. Luke’s school as a vineyard of the Lord and I see myself on a mission at the school,” the principal pointed out.
She said the support of staff, parents and the community has been integral to her work. “I have a wonderful staff. The co-operation of the staff is excellent. Some parents are also very supportive. I also receive a lot of support from the community for the work that I do at the school.”
She said the school has many features which make it conducive to learning. “We have a folk museum and a potter’s house for pottery making are some of the features at the school that make it unique and make the environment of the school conducive to learning,” she stated.”So the students are taught to appreciate what they have and are shown the way people lived long ago at the folk museum and the school has adopted teaching pottery as part of its skills program.”
Students are also taught agriculture and heavy emphasis is placed on culture and sports.
“We try to create an atmosphere which will allow every child to develop various aspects of themselves, spiritually, morally, intellectually, socially, culturally, and so forth” she added.
Sister Annita also said that being positive with her students is one strategy that works well in the school. According to her, students are, on a regular basis, shown gratitude for maintaining the school’s environment and for excellence in other areas.
Teachers and parents are also honoured frequently.
The St. Luke’s Primary School is located in the community of Pointe Michel and received awards for most outstanding school environment. The school is also well known for participating in various cultural competitions around the island.
Congrats my beautiful teacher from St.Francis Primary
This picture shows that this school has a lot of mature teachers.
May God continue to bless you.
Congratulations sister Anita. Reading this brings back the lovely memories I have of you while you worked in Delices. Great Job!!! and May God Continue to use and bless you.
Edwina is a very bright girl. Make good use of her.
Oh Edwina, looking at your just warms my heart – such a beautiful teacher.
Sister Anita…Keep up the Good Work…You are blessed of the Lord.
A principal of excellence can only be accomplished by the integration of the head with the body….hence I am quite pleased that the teachers were also highlighted here. You have a dedicated, skilled team, continue to work with them and you will continue to shine. Your success depends on them. I am very impressed with your skilled pupils, they continue to shine in music and culture. Its a plus on your school that Agriculture forms part of the its curriculum. Vaya Mr Winston, Serenade, continue the good work of training our little musicians. They were impressive on teachers day. THIS IS MY CHOICE OF SCHOOL FOR MY CHILDREN. I do hope that the school does better at national assessment though. Congrats again to Principal and staff of St Luke’s School.
Congratulations to my friend Roselia for long service, your awards have to continue to Meritorious Service…
May the Good Lord continue to bless and guide you and your staff….for the Vineyard for sure..
Congrats sister Anita. Your industrious disposition is a great source of inspiration for the students. They should show their appreciation by studying and succeeding at the National Exams.
St. Luke’s Primary School is a reflection of Sister Annita’s drive, taste, and leadership. Keeping the school constantly in the public eye and also in the eye of the Ministry of Education in such a positive way is nothing short of brilliant. Job well done, Sister.

Yes iiiiiii. Mr. Winston , you are the only male among all those women. Gasar, u need some company. lmao. Mr. Winston . great teacher, Great musician. They need more male teachers at the school though. Males rise up and take the lead.
Ladies u look wonderful. Sister Anitokes, is my lady of business.
I have visited this school, and found it to be brilliant, clean, with friendly teachers and children. Excellent classrooms, and a definite attitude that there is a lot more to learning than can be found in the standard school textbooks.
I only wish Sister Annita was able to communicate her excellent learning methods to other teachers and schools, especially in the villages.
Congratulations and nuff respect to Sr Anita and the rest of the staff body at SLS. Indeed, St Lukes has always been leading the way for many years in many areas of achievements i.e, sports, culture, academics etc and it will continue to do so for many, many more years. Given its present crop of staff, supportive parents and talented youngsters, SLS will continue to make meaningful contributions to our community (La Pwent) and Dominica as a whole through talented and resourceful people. The staff there do a sterling job with an unwavering commitment to achieve excellence. Big shout goes out to Miss Edwin, you and many others are epic examples of the qualities and attributes expected to earn this prestigious title of this noble profession. Keep it up St Lukes and God Bless the staff, pupil, and parents.
