A six-week hospitality training course for young people of the South-East of Dominica got underway on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at the Waitikubuli National Trail Research and Interpretive Facility in Pont Case.
Fifty-six young people will take part in the training course which will focus on bartending, housekeeping, food and beverage services and customer relations. The training is organized by the Employment and Small Business Support Agency of the Ministry of Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs.
Minister for Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs, Dr John Collin McIntyre called on the participants of the hospitality training course to partner with government to ensure its success.
“This is a partnership between the Government, between the Ministry, between the Dominica Labour Party and you must make sure that you partner properly in this programme from the point of view that (you) take it seriously and help us in this partnership to sustain you. We are very serious about that,” McIntyre stated.
He encouraged the participants to take advantage of the opportunity to better themselves for the future. He said government would continue to create the avenues so that they could further develop their skills and put what they learn to good use.
The participants for the training come from the constituencies of Grand Fond, LaPlaine, Castle Bruce and Salybia.
Training the youth is always a good thing … it is a step in the right direction. Please make the training of a high standard so those who complete it are an asset to their employers.
Why are young people always afraid to take the front seats in life. For such an initiative persons should feel comfortable and proud sitting upfront.
Well!well!!,this training is not for mr,McIntyre.,its for you young people for a beginning of a brighter future whether it’s labour or uwp who forms the next government, take the opportunity and be thankful. Forget about the politics.
women who is in the fire feels the heat. You are probably employed and earn a descent wage these are young people seeking to build a future. What a discouraging note for the young people who are trying to learn something to put into use. Boy allu Dominicans are so negative no foresight, one track minds NEGATIVE.
My fellow Dominicans please do not be fool by this political gimmick taking place in Dominica all of a sunden, my advice to you my fellow Dominicans, take the monies take all Mr Collin is offering right now, and come election day kick them out of office, this administration is taking us for granted knowing the weakness of some, fooled us with their failed election promises and is trying to do the same this coming election, Collin the phrase it is better to be late than never is worthy of using, but does not apply to what you and your administration are rushing to do on the eve of an election to stay in power, to all those who are attending the training session all the best
Did you notice the constituencies involved? They are very vulnerable. But, the question is, after the six-week training, where will they be employed, if at all?
It is not for you to question. Wait and see.
If you have a good memory, as published by DNO, you will recall that some who took courses were employed, be they temporarily, paid for by the government. The intention was to be permanently employed, if, obviously, the employer was satisfied with their performance. The same will eventually occur to these trainees.
Is that i wondering. Roseau workers especially need that course. They too damn rude dealing with customers. Long mouth, shouting at u , all
Kind of things. I wAs so embarassed to see how i wAs treated by some people in the service industry. Not embarassed because they make me feel shame. Embarassed because i am scared to take my friends to dominica.
