SOL Gas Summer Program begins

More than 40 young persons in the Fond Cole area are currently the beneficiaries of a summer program organized at the Goodwill Primary School by H.H.V. Whitchurch & Company Ltd, Agents in Dominica for SOLGAS.

This initiative is being organized to give something back to residents within the immediate SOLGAS trading area.  SOL Gas, through its local Agent H.H.V. Whitchurch & Co. Ltd., has worked with the Goodwill Primary School and its Principal, Miriam Lewis, to coordinate an eight day program, running from July 7th – 16th, 2010.

Held at the Goodwill Primary School, the closest venue to the SOLGAS Bulk Depot in Fond Cole, the Program hosts eight days of fun-filled and developmental activities including a field trip to the SOLGAS Bulk Depot where the children learnt about the safe handling and storage of cooking gas at home.  There were six teachers in attendance for the program and fifty registered students.

At the opening of the Summer Program on the morning of July 7th, Whitchurch representatives Damian Whitchurch-Aird, Jason Whitchurch-Aird, SOLGAS Bulk Depot Manager Henry Hodge and Communications Manager Kira Thompson-Aird visited the school to welcome the children to the Program.  They in turn were welcomed by the Principal, and Program Coordinator, Miriam Lewis and her Team.  Thompson-Aird expressed delight in the Program and best wishes for its success impressing on the students to have fun as it is summer, and take away something productive at the end of it.  Hodge touched on the SOL Gas product and brand, staying with the students to talk to them about Safety guidelines.  These guidelines were further enhanced with the students’ trip to the SOL Bulk the following day.

The Program included a field trip to Soufriere, Red Cross Safety, Show and Tell, Career Day, Sport’s Day, Art & Craft Day all ending with a Closing Ceremony on July 16th with SOL (EC) Ltd. representatives flying in from St. Lucia to see and hear the feedback from the attending students.

I am happy for the giving back…..but why it had to take so long? Whitchurch operating for over 100 years in dominica and I think they can be a more CHARITABLE cooperate citizen. I look foward to hearing of more WHITCHURCH sponsored activities. However I do appreciate the quality and presentation of their products and services.
