St. Martin Secondary school has copped the winning position with their project “Flushometer” at the Sagicor Visionaries Challenge on Wednesday afternoon.
Coming in at first place is the Dominica Grammar School with a project which was geared at highlighting the positive effects of Sulphur on crops and at second place is the Convent High School with a project dubbed “Eco Dinning Hall.”
Students of the St Martin Secondary School provided an eco friendly way of dealing with the challenge of the inability to flush the toilets at their school effectively when there is low water pressure or no water.
This project portrayed toilets which used less water that regular toilets and were powered by solar energy.
The top three teams will take away prizes for their school which will enhance learning. The prizes include a computerized technology centre with easy to use data loggers, censors, experiments and graphic analysis software and science kits for the school.
The winning school will move on to the final regional competition in Barbados in April with the chances winning an all expenses paid participation in the STEM Ambassador Program in Florida.
One student representative will also travel with a teacher to Florida for an all expenses paid STEM related tour which includes visits to the Kennedy Space Centre, the Museum of Science and Industry, Disney World’s Epcourt Theme Park and the Patal School of Global Sustainability.

Congrats to all the students for a job well done. But just one comment shouldn’t the headline and the lead photo correspond? Why isnt the students and their project (SMSS) highlighted more DNO?
KENDR JEAN JACQUES Assisted By JONELLE HONORE of the St.Martin Secondary School are form four students from SMSS.
With all due respect where is the pic of the winning students and their project, they are the winners. DNO reports do better than than.

DNO, could you guys post a more relevant feature photo as it regards your headline? Wouldnt you agree that an image of the winning school and their project would be more fitting to complement the article’s title?

Superb projects. There is hope for DA’s future! All of the presentations were potential viable projects which could solve real problems in a sustainable manner. I was thoroughly impressed.

Coming in as first runner up was the Dominica Grammer School with a project which was geared at highlighting the positive effects of Sulphur on crops and second runner-up was the Convent High School with a project dubbed “Eco Dinning Hall.”
We read that too.
Peacock dat you read. The story does not have first runner up or second runner up. After naming the winner it says DGS is first and CHS second.
