The Youth Development Division in collaboration with the Cooperative Division is currently into its 30th year of organizing an annual Summer Day Camp on the island.
This year’s camp is being held under the theme “Encouraging Volunteerism and Entrepreneurship through Cooperatives”.
240 young people from across the island will be participating in the Summer Day Camp and its complimentary Work Study Camp programs. They will be undertaking a number of community projects such as landscaping and beautification projects, beach cleanup, and murals.
In a release the division said the Summer Day Camp program focuses on training young people from various communities around the island on topics related to self and community development. It also seeks to empower young people through training.
The “Work Study Camp Program” was introduced to compliment the Summer Day Camp program. This initiative places emphasis on getting young people involved in small community projects while allowing participants to gather a wealth of knowledge on various topics geared at individual and community development.
The programme will climax on August 24, with ‘Volunteers’Appreciation Day’, where all participants will gather at Grand Bay to be recognized and also given an opportunity to showcase their talents.
I remember those! Very productive!
