Seventeen-year-old Arthlene Bellot of Trafalgar, a Business Administration Major at the Dominica State College (DSC,) is the 2013-2014 CIBC First Caribbean International Bank scholarship recipient.
The EC$4,000 scholarship was presented to her on Thursday morning.
“We are here to present a scholarship to Arthlene Bellot,” said Rhonda Lawrence, Business Support Officer at CIBC, said at the presentation. “We are building on the partnership that we have with the DSC over the years. We have given scholarships to students, some of them have received employment here. So Arthlene there is hope for you.”
Bellot said she is happy for the scholarship opportunity.
“I would like to thank First Caribbean International Bank for giving me this opportunity. I am very, very grateful and I promise to do my best at school and to make all proud,” the young student stated.
Her parents, Arthur and Joanne Bellot, who also attended the ceremony, stated that they were pleasantly surprised when they received the news of the scholarship.
“Today we are proud parents of our daughter receiving this scholarship from First Caribbean,” Joanne Bellot said, pointing out the family is overjoyed.
She stated when Arthlene told the family she had applied for the scholarship, it was something they had put off their minds.
“We were not really looking forward to receiving a scholarship and when that news came that she got the scholarship I said ‘wow’,” she said.
They described the assistance as a dream come true.
“It was really a dream come true and she is always looking forward to getting help because she knows how it is with us at home. We do try our best to assist our children however we can financially,” the mother noted. “So we are very, very happy and indeed grateful to CIBC and we want to wish the business well too.”
