The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit, in collaboration with Crime Stoppers Dominica recently launched the “Truth About Drugs” booklets at the St. Mary’s Academy.

The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit and Crime Stoppers Dominica received a large donation of booklets on a series of informational material compliments the MV Freewinds, which over the years, has provided community service to Dominica in many ways.

The Truth About Drugs Programme provides practical tools to give the youth solid facts which enable them to choose to lead drug-free lives all on their own.

The St. Mary’s Academy, St. Martin Secondary School, Goodwill Secondary School, Dominica Grammar School and the Wesley High School each received a share of drug education packages.

Coordinator of the National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit Ms. Jacinta Bannis encouraged the students to commit themselves to be responsible adolescents with the vision of succeeding academically, socially and spiritually.

“By staying in school and having no desire for using and consuming alcohol and other drugs, you can lay claim to a bright future,” she said.

The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit stands committed to drug demand reduction in our schools and communities. The Unit has established strong links in our primary schools and would like to see a strengthening of that relationship with our secondary schools.

Crime Stoppers Dominica encouraged the students to make responsible decisions as it relates to drug abuse citing the correlation between drug abuse and the committal of crime and as such, the Truth About Drugs Programme is vital to efforts at crime prevention and reduction.

The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit and Crime Stoppers Dominica expressed gratitude to the MV Freewinds for the donation of booklets.

    This is an excellent plan.

Reaching out to schools is so appropriate because students in High Schools are most vulnerable. This is usually where the drug problem first takes root.

The battle against drugs is a battle against crime for two reasons. (1) Drugs cause crime. People desperate
for drugs will commit crimes to get money for drugs. (2) People high on drugs mindlessly commit crimes. Often when people go on a binge of serial violent crime it is found it is found they were under the influence of drugs. This is why it is important to reach our youth with the message that a drug free life is
a better life in every way. It is the TRUTH about Drugs :!:

All you people of The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit, Crime Stoppers Dominica, and MV Freewinds, and ALL who have contributed have done a tremendous work. Also I congratulate all the schools that are making this possible. Thank you for opening up to this great program :!:

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

What is the truth Rev? The truth is all these programs do is scare people. the DARE program was a huge lie and scare tactic propaganda instituted by the US. Marijuana was a major culprit. Now, look what is happening with the holy herb the healing of the nation. Cocaine is widely used in the medical industry an a lo of the youth dont even know that even when you go to the dentist for a fill-in the NOVACANE is actually made from cocaine. Any drug whose name ends with cane/caine is a cocaine based drug. True education of drugs and their uses and effects should be taught. Not scare the children with threats of damnation and despair and misfortune. Yes these are effects, but if you are teaching about drugs, teach everything. The good and the bad. Also Rev. as a man of the cloth you are an idiot for talking like that. You interact with people everyday on a daily and i bet you don’t even know that those same people you have respect for and are good citizens are high on one thing or another.

I was not talking about the limited dental use of a cocaine derivative and you know it. Nor did I deny that there are certain medical uses for cannabis and other substances.

By blurting out as you did and railing against me you only lost any credibility you might have gained with people internationally who have followed my work for years.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. D.D., Th.M. (Diploma in Drug Studies) (Pastoral Counselor Certificate)
