Twenty-five students from the Roseau South and Central districts have successfully completed the 2015 Roseau Summer Computer Course, organized by the Youth Development Division.

The students received their certificates at a graduation ceremony held at the Youth Enterprise Centre on High Street, Roseau on Tuesday.

The program began on July 6th, assisting students from ages 9 to 15 to reach their true potential, organizers say.

The students are Dwyght Davis, Carson Goodchild, Makayla Jno. Baptiste, Tyrell Balthazar, Serena C. Johnson, Rihanna C. Johnson, Jahriah Desiree, Brinette Nation, Desean Denis, Sephora Germain, Kliemmah Peltier, Jovonie Estrado, Yarkanovich Telemacque, Christlee Azille, Svetlara Johnson, Tiano Je Marie Hill, Sannya Whyte, De Juan Registe, Kiandra Le-Bruin, Sydney Le-Bruin, Malika Sharplis, Julani Johnson, Sydney Goring and Samuel Joseph.

Youth Officer for the Roseau South and Central District, Lilia Durand who was addressing a ceremony at the completion of the program said every year during the summer holidays the Youth Development Division has seen the importance of having students actively and “very much involved in community and self development sessions.”

According to her, the students were introduced to Computer Concept, Microsoft Word 2007, Power Point, Microsoft Publisher and the internet.

“Moreover the students were introduced to drama in a way to express themselves, sports, arts and craft and hospitality arts,” Durand stated. “The students also participated in beach cleanups, visiting our senior citizens and donated a food basket,” she said.

She said there was never a dull moment in the class or on nature trips during the program, “the students were always willing to assist and go an extra mile to complete their task.”

She urges parents to keep encouraging their children and keep them away from the distractions.

“We need to do a little bit of more supervision,” Durand stated.

Meantime the winners of the Power Point and Poster presentation, held during the program, were also announced.

First place winner in the Power Point presentation went to Desean Denis, while Brinette Nation secured the second place.

Kiandra Le-Bruin received the first place prize for Poster and Power Point Presentation, while Jovonie Estrado copped the second place prize.
