UWI launches 2012 online programme

The University of the West Indies Open Campus in Dominica has officially launched its 2012 online programmes.

The 62 year old university held a media day on Wednesday to introduce its Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Development and Family Studies.

Head of the Campus Dr. Francis Severin says the new online programme will develop the required skills and knowledge for a range of careers that involve working with children, their families and the services that support them within social, health and education.

“We think training is required for accounting, engineering, law and for these other areas and we think we can just go off the top of our heads socialize children without training but we are wrong,” he said.

He said the Dominican society needs people who are trained in the area of youth development.

“What excites me is that it is open to a wide range of people. It is for current practitioners or professionals working with young children, nurses,…” the UWI official said.

All courses are inter-disciplinary and integrated to bring together historic and complementary study of early childhood education and family studies, he explained.

    Great Job Mr. Severin
But it would be nice if something could be placed online for business students who want to persue a masters (i.e Business admin, Managmenet, Accounting, Finance or project management);

PLease! All other universities offers a full curriculum online, from Associates degrees to doctorates all online. What is UWI doing in this respect. UWI needs to shape up or they will get left behind, taken up by all these universities from the first world.
