The University of the West Indies Open Campus, Dominica, is once again pleased to announce its Annual Open House event at the salubrious and green environment of the UWI Open Campus on Elmshall Road on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 9:00 am. As is customary, the Open House will begin with an opening ceremony or gathering to which we extend a warm invitation to the media.
We will commence the day’s proceedings at 9:00 am and end at 12:30 pm. The formal opening ceremony, however, should not go beyond 90 minutes. Fifth and fourth formers from several secondary schools around the island have been invited to participate in this annual event. The North East Comprehensive and Castle Bruce Secondary schools will be visited by a UWI admission/faculty team on Tuesday, February 2nd.
UWI alumnus and former lecturer at Cave Hill Campus, Mr. Mark Marie, will deliver the feature address at the ceremony. As part of the UWI Open Campus’s plan in 2010 to highlight the struggles of our brothers and sisters in Haiti, Mr. Marie will speak to the students about the history and development of the people of Haiti. The idea is to inform our students about various aspects of Haiti and in so doing, help to reduce the negativity towards this Caribbean and CARICOM country.
Representatives from our fellow campuses will be at the event, having arrived in Dominica on Sunday, January 31, 2010 for that purpose. They will speak competently about the various programmes offered by the faculties of our region’s premier institution of higher education and advise students how best to proceed in applying to the UWI.
Welcome and introductory remarks will be delivered by Mr. Felix Wilson, Programme Officer, who will also chair the opening ceremony, standing in for the Head, Dr. Francis O. Severin, who is presently Acting Director, UWI Open Campus Country Sites, and unavoidably absent. The Administrative Assistant, Mr Barry Casimir, will offer some concluding remarks.
Students will have a wonderful opportunity to interact one-on-one with our admissions officers as well as faculty representatives following the opening ceremony. We will also be sharing with students the exciting possibilities of staying here in Dominica and reading for the Bachelors and Associate degrees, as well as certificate and other programmes at the UWI Open Campus, with minimum qualifications of CXC-CSEC subjects.
If you require any clarification or additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Felix Wilson at telephone 448-3182/3482. You may also reach me by e-mail at [email protected].
