Dominica’s Minister of Education has appointed a new Technical and Vocational Education and Training council, (TVECT), to help guide his ministry for the next three years.
Public Relations Officer of the Vocational Education and Training Council Matthew Leblanc, says policies and guidelines to place Vocational Education and Training on the front burner will also be implemented.
“It is the philosophy of the council to advise on measures to be put in place to enable youths to access training and skills that will empower them,” he explained.
He pointed out that such measures will also help alleviate the unemployment problem on the island.
“This is so vital right now, based on the challenges faced as far as unemployment is concerned and the challenges that face the region,” he added.
The committee is being chaired by Edison Henry, with Stevenson Astaphan as the Vice Chairman and Meril Mathew as the secretary.
Other members of the TVET Council are Celia Nicholas, Kertist Augustus, Jeffery Baptiste, Martin Allen, Stevenson Hyacinth and Rawle Leslie.
Henry said being trained in the skills is a Dominican tradition, therefore creating the necessary certification and standards are very appropriate human resource development models.
“Since our most abundant resource is our people, we must create the environment to maximize the utilization of that resource, therefore, TVET,” he said.
Kertist Augustus? Matthew Leblanc? Huh! The Minister serious nuh? I wish allu plenty luck!
That’s a step in the right direction. They need to bring back the Junior Secondary Program as well. Why have we removed something that has proven to work and traded it for the white man’s system(U.S.E) which did n ot work for them despite all their resources? U.S.E ,as it is now , is the worst thing to happen to Education in Dominica. All the way with JSP. Thumbs up to the technical and vocational committee.
June “6th” has passed! what the Chinese leader picture is still on DNO Caption? I get scared everytime i see his face.
About time….we should been here years ago…but it seems we like to regress instead of going forward. But good news.
