Press/Public Education Officer at Dominica’s Electoral Office, Elias Dupuis has said the Electoral Commission is in an advanced stage of readiness for the upcoming General Elections.
The 2019 General Elections is set for Friday 6th December.
“We are at an advanced stage of readiness for the December 6th elections and everything is on schedule,” he said during an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO) on Wednesday.
According to Dupuis, there are a number of different things happening at the office at this time.
“A supplementary list has to be created with everyone who would have registered between the end of September 2019 and November 6th 2019,” he said. “That list has to be issued within 7 days. Today is actually the 7th day.”
Dupuis mentioned further that with respect to December 6th General Elections no persons registered after the 6th of November 2019 will be eligible to participate in upcoming elections.
He said the list will be brought to the communities and published.
“We are in the final stage of finalizing all of our polling stations and a majority of them are already confirmed,” Dupuis stated.
He said this is being put in place to have elections on the 6th of December with no interruptions.
He went on to say that the final elections list will be out next week ahead of the nomination day, which is Tuesday 19th November 2019.
“On that list, we’ll include all of the people that will be part of the supplementary list that will come out today as well as the preliminary list of September 30th 2019,” Dupuis stated.
He continued, “When the preliminary list comes out for September people can make objections, people can make claims, have different things changed, for example how the names have been spelt…some of the names may be spelt wrong, some of the names may be left out accidentally.”
Dupuis said the final elections list is what will be used for the upcoming General Elections.
The Haitian brothers and sisters name on the list should be removed and not take part in our elections… period

OMG stupes. Get out of the bubble! I want to ask you to take the job – take the list and say how you & those of you who wants Voter !D cards are going to do the process. Take into account those who are seeking medical attention overseas, on holidays, at Colleges and Universities, Seminars etc. I want to hear from u. PLans and strategies (time frame) cost too to fully implement voter id cards. Your partner said it could be done b4 the election. When asked to suggestion why and his method of achieving it, he never answered saying it is $ government & not political parties. Parler, Parler, parler parler toute suelement cannot fix things. Change of the way u think is the major problem. Talk is cheap. Plans and proposals taking everything into account is the answer. Wait alone u can wait. Talk 2. Nothing act this incumbent regime is above board. Everything is soiled and sullied. The Electoral Office is a rat nest. It’s managed by loyal DLP diehards whose ability to handle a lemonade stand is highly questionable. I foresee confusion on Election Day as what goes wrong a morning can’t go right a evening.

Cont’d – Ibo Ibo France. Do you know that mostly everyone knows one another in Dominica? Do u know that each political party has their agents to see if there are irregularities? Now I have a problem. Now with the advent of online banking etc, there are a lot of fraudsters (hackers). 1 would think that that system would be better than the old system but alas more hacking. do u think that this system with agents representing each party is outdated? U perhaps would say yes but I can tell u in no uncertain terms that the forward we go the bigger the problem. I would recommend that every voter walk with an additional picture ID (I always have mines). So stop being in a bubble, face reality. When yr party win, everything will be a OK? Stop dreaming, be realistic, stop hatred, envy, replace with love of your fellow country man. The PM is not an alien. Get to meet him. U might be shocked. stop gossip/hear say. You know these things for a fact right? They are loyal DLP diehards right? How did you establish their affiliations?
Who is Elias Dupuis the PRO? What do you know of him and his parentage? Have you interviewed the Chief Elections Officer to determine his affiliation? This is by no means meant to cast aspersions on the young people doing these jobs because whether we believe it or not, people can in fact be professional in their performance in spite of their perceived affiliation.
I am just saying that if you who have been trying to sound intelligent and even condescending on this site can make these irresponsible and prejudicial statements, to whom are you leaving the responsibility for measured and analytical thought and speech?
It is these irresponsible rants which stir up unjustified rage and hatred in those not fortunate to have had the benefit of an education to assist them in differentiating the plants from the weeds.

He is alive and well. I believe he may be bearing his father’s name in every aspect. In other words a “junior”. I don’t know that for sure. Just a logical trend of thought.
So just as some people have been told that dead people are voting in the elections and they actually believe it without even telling themselves that is impossible, if you repeat this a few people may soon hold a demonstration to remove the dead man from the electoral office you know!

Skerrit is determined to win at any cost. It is little wonder electoral reform will remain as a pipe dream under this administration. The electoral list needs to be cleaned and campaign finance legislation needs to be enacted to ensure transparency of the source of the money being spent. I cannot believe DLP can raise the kind of money from domestic sources to allow them to spend that much to bring artists from Jamaica and spread so much money to their supporters and people running for election. I believe a lot of that money they are spending came from passport sales. DLP is running a parallel DLP controlled treasury to ensure they siphon off money that should rightly go to the national treasury. These guys should be jailed.

Are we in an advanced stage of removing the dead voters?
Can someone in their good state of mind , enters a polling station on Election Day and represent a dead voter? I would like to know how this could be done. Every polling station will be having persons who will be representing the various candidates who are contesting the Elections and these people are from the same community where every body knows every body, so this is just highly impossible. You the readers, you might have different ideas, so please share it with me

You are so correct. I have seen a number of elections and when you enter the polling station whether the person in charge knows you or not, you are asked to state your name loudly. The UWP; Labour; DFP; Pappy agents all scroll down their lists and look you in the face to make sure you are not “dead”. You then go in and cast your vote, then your finger is dipped in indelible ink to confirm that you voted.
Perhaps someone can give me a hypothetical case as to how a voter could vote on someone else’s name. That person could also tell me how a Haitian could get registered who is not resident in Dominica or holds Dominican citizenship.
I am surprised to hear that the Electoral Office has a PRO. All of that misinformation going around has not been challenged by the PRO coming on radio to educate people about the electoral laws. We have reached the stage now where the people speaking really believe what they are saying and others believe them. Sad times for us!
