I am not a carnival person ,but one the things i will support is that parents should allow their young ones to be children before being adults. That is not just for the show but to all Conscious Minded Dominican parents, please dress them their age and let them represent true Dominican kids!

Last year was good, all the kids did well i must say, but the judges was not fear at all, Grandbay had the crown, but guess who they gave it to, your guess is as good as mine, and why do you think that she won? the judges dont encourage parents to send there kids into these things anymore, not even girls for queen show we can get, we get but then a whole set of struggle to get them. nobody wants to take part anymore, why can we be fear in the things we do, and give jack his jacket if its really his!

You bunch of hopeless, helpless, envious losers! You never cease to amaze me. You use every opportunity to harp on your woes and are always ready to have a pity party. No one made you black with nappy hair and broad noses. If you say you are proud of your blackness, live it and look for the beauty within your self. Look at the amount of hate and criticism that is heaped on a great institution as SMS – a school that has done so much for the Dominican society. You will always remain down-trodden and defeated because you never lift yourselves up but use your energy and tongue to castigate and belittle the God-given gifts and talents of others.

    • umm
      January 24, 2011

The only one thats down trodden is you. You giving people maypwe whilst you sounding God in the same sentence. You find you making sense. Damn bible thumpers, y’all are so whack! Excuse you, its the parents not the school. It has done so much by discreditiing hardworking parents, reveling in successes of naturally gifted students…sure it has. Men sit down! Blind as hell

1993 graduate. I’m not sure what sms you go but those on virgin lane, opposite the presbetry and behind the infirmary, practised discrimination at the time I was there. Lots of it. Now get the archives of SMS and Convent prep princess pics of years back . Put all those princesses pictures flat on table tell me if year after year it represented the black nappy head kids in those schools. BUt hey we are all Dominicans right???????? You all sit there and act like no black on black prejudices occur in Dominica but Some who aren’t hypocrit and speak our minds see it. Nobody crying down any school. I was criticising the school for its dsicriminatory practises on its students. If you all went to the states or anywhere and some white man said something out of the way , you all would be the first to say he racist and prejudice. But apparently black people aren’t prejudice against their own.

You’re right. Its what you learn but if they don’t give you a fair fighting chnace in a school you won’t learn jack squat! Okay I hope parents in that school are making sure that there children not sitting down in those classes with the worst teachers and those classes labelled as “dumb”! Bonsoir

Dominica needs schools like the St. Martin.

But we forgive you and love you the person, but dislike your negative attitude.

Actually I went there umm 1-1, 2-1,3-1,4-1,5-1,6-1,7-1. If you went to SMS you know what that means. By the way I didn’t get scholarship because of 7-1 or SMS. I got it because of my I ‘ve always been studious and my grandmother and mother was a big help. I never even use to take on teacher. I was just tired of drinking toloma so I worked my but off. But if you’re like my cousin and they had you in 1-3, 2-3,3-3,4-3,5-3,6-3, 7-3 or maybe 7-4 your a** was grass. SMS isn’t the reason for scholars in 7-1. They placed the highest performing students in one class with the best teachers per grade. I know it as a fact!

If you look at the STATS you will see more failures from 7-2, 7-3 and 7-4. The only class that holding up the stats is 7-1. But they set those kids in the “3” classes up for failure big time. We all know children learn from other children and to segregate them by their abilities is wrong. Now I could go on but I already started drama on the board and distracting away from the little kids so I’m going apologize to them for taking their shine. But I stand by what I say. Now if DNO want to do an article of elementary schools in DA I will come back there and throw down my facts!

And I will be supporting her 100% along with the other princess.

As for St.Martin School. A notorious institution for discrimination! I never understand why the ministry continue to pay those teachers and principals especially for the terrible work they do with young girls. They say this is an all girls schools for empowering young women but I swear all this school has done for years is bring down little girls self esteem! They have a few pass common entrance since na nay cana and people think they do a great job for the masses of girls who’ve gone to this “hole” called a school. Mean old nasty teachers except two all the others going straight to hell. Don’t pass go !

Now I’m off my tantrum beautiful girls all and each of them regardless of how they were chosen!

    • Hmmm
      January 21, 2011

      hahahah,
I agree with you on your opinion of St. Martin School.
I went there many years ago and if you wasn’t light skinned, with curly hair and straight nose or you didn’t have surname you was nothing.
But I show them this black girl with short nappy hair and flat nose could easily pass common entrance and become better than all their light skinned favorites.

      • StMartin past student ... 1996 graduate
        January 23, 2011

SMPS was never a school where if you didn’t have complexion and hair you were nothing .. U must be mixing it up with some other school or it might just be ur mind OR it may just b that u lack self confidence!!!!!

The teachers then were always great or else I would not have been a scholar … they always say EVERYTHING starts from the HOME … if parents don’t teach their kids to be somebody with confidence and self determination then these kids will lack in all aspects. Yes teachers can embrace on these but it’s not the job of the teacher to start it off … WHY do we depend on teachers and then blame them if you can’t at your home train / teach / show your child the RIGHT way?!?!?!

Stop crying down the schools! Stop letting the younger ones see how ‘stupid’ we can get on for petty things. They learn off of us … We need to show them that no matter what school you attend (despite reputation of school or status) it’s what you learn that make you who you are not what school you used to go. In fact i swear these days COMPLEXION, HAIR TEXTURE, FACIAL COMPOSURE ETC. NO LONGER SAYS A THING OR CAN BRING YOU ANYWHERE!!

These young ladies look spectacular – I have NO favorite and wish all the best of luck on the night. Who so ever wins, hope all in all it’s well deserved and that she continues to carry herself as a decent and well respected young teen … woman in the near future!

wait wait wait…. i understand why ur upset… but what’s with all the racist statements Fond Cole??? Are you saying that those with lighter colour skin and long curly hair are more valuable, more important, more to be considered than those who are dark skin with short hair???????????????????????????????????????????????? Kindly answer my question. I wish not to judge you as you have so brutally judge your fellow Dominica. And ensure that you answer my question as it is directed, for it is a very simple question… Thank you.

@D/CA for Jesus….. Of course not! That is the point that i was trying to make when Shucks01 made that statement. They are not more important or valuable than them. Infact didnt you see that i ended by saying LEAVE THE PEOPLE’S PRINCESSES ALONE. THEY ALL ARE THEIR PRINCESS. Infact the princess from my community is dark skinned with short hair. And I will be supporting her 100% along with the other princess.

      January 21, 2011

i get where you comming from we have to know that this is a beauty and talent compEtiion. while these girls may be beautIful on the inside, but on this ocasion they are being judged for their outward beauty. some girls seem little————— on a related note the girls competing for the queen title, while many of them have beautiful faces their bathing suit picS were not very impressive. i remember some years ago there was a very beautiful girl who won the qeen titile but she loolked so insignificant when she competed with the other caribben contestants. like it or lnot they are bing judged for their outward appearanCe as well as their TALENTS.

ok, thankyou for elaborating on my point. I just didn’t have the strength to justify myself but I do want to say this. It’s not about complexion or hair texture as much as it is about someone who is in a pageant with extremely ORDINARY looks. Beauty pageants are a superficial concept…unfortunate but true. I don’t have to pretend to praise these girls’ look because they’re 8 or 9 or 10. I have every right to say my piece because they’re being judged on their looks first and foremost.

I understand what Shucks01 is saying…..When you think of Princess Show you think of little girls in ribbons, bobbles, clips etc. Must admit they are all prettyyyyyy. Why give a child accessories, weave and teenager clothes, when it’s a Princess Show. They are little and innocent present them that way

Fond cole: traditionally, whether you like it or not, winners of beauty contests have been light skinned or mixed or if they’re dark they have ‘mainstream’ features. Sorry but it’s the truth.

But that is not wat Shucks01 is saying and I Quote “They are not suited for pageantry”> He did not say they are being made up and looks like teenagers instead of princesses. Read again if u dont understand.

The person responsible for putting the Princess contestestant forward for St. Martin Primary know that it was not a fair chosen contestant

But wait a minute.. Every year St. Martin School have issues in selecting their princess man?

    • Bigmike
      January 21, 2011

Truth be told, the young lady who won the Ti matador was promised if she represented the school she would represent the ST. Martin school at princess show. Not only did she represent the school she won the completion; however she was hood winked and baambozzled by the school and its staff. She was not informed that she was not representing the school until very late. Shame on the principal and staff of the St. Martin School. What should this young lady think of teachers when they lied to her face, am not wishing bad on the other young lady because she never asked for this but teachers you are setting a bad example. Addisa keep your head up what is yours is yours.

Normal practice is that the reigning Ti Matador would represent the St. Martin Primary School for contesting for Princess but guess what friends came in first shame on princi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don’t know what you are talking about.
Friendship had nothing to do with it.
Their are things more important than going up for princess like grades, good attitude, respect, discipline etc.

        January 23, 2011

but normally isn’t that how it is!? the child who wins the show would represent for princess????
if so why then have a process?!?! and if there are THINGS or criterias she has to meet then why was she chosen for ti matador to begin with?!?!?!?! wasn’t it that she was REPRESENTING THE SCHOOL at that show as well??? something now seems fishy!!!!
