Award winning Angelique Kidjo brought the curtains down on the 5th annual Jazz n Creole on Sunday 8th June, 2014.

Scores of patrons gathered at the Cabrits National Park on Sunday to witness first hand the musical stylings of Kidjo, Dominican native Heston Francis and various other acts.

Patrons were particularly receptive to Kidjo who moved the crowd with her African music. Kidjoe also got up close and personal with the crowd when she left the stage during her performance and came down into the crowd to perform.

Other performances included Breve, 8th Note Band, Jaques Schwartz-Bart Trio and Marlow Rosa.

Leona Lawrence a satisfied patron, told Dominica News Online, that the event was of a very high standard.

“The Jazz n Creole this year has seen a great improvement from last year’s event. It is evident that the event is becoming increasingly popular by the large number of persons gathered here today.”

The Jazz n Creole event has been described by CEO of Discover Dominica Colin Piper as one of Dominica’s key event following the World Creole Music Festival.

A UWP government will ensure that the arts and culture industry of Dominica will once again play a significant role in the socio-economic development of the Country.
Under a UWP/Team Dominica government, Jazz ‘n Creole will attain the Next Level of success. Change is a must.

Her excellent stage performance was truly African and her tribute to Miriam Makeba was sterling. Jazz fans really wanted more Jazz, the traditional jazz, in all its hues. With the introduction of Reggae and African music in this installation of this year’s Jazz n’ Creole, the event should be called a music festival, going forward, like is done in St. Kitts.

Also, we should define what Creole music is so that patrons expectations are not dampened.

One would tend to think after last year’s Creol Festival’s sub standard production with crappy sound, lighting and staging DFC would have learn their mistake and recovered for the Jazz festival but they definitely did not.

Who are their technical advisers in that organisation I want to know. I am starting to belive they don’t have one or if they do this person need to travel to the first world to learn something about production and it’s impact on quality

Maybe you have a point however It’s not all about lights and sound. Look on the positive side. It was a fabulous event. There was a feeling of Joy and unity of Dominicans and our friends from overseas. One just has to look at the faces on FB of the attendants. Sheer joy. What a relief from all the noise and crudity we have in DA.
More events like these are needed where all ages can participate. Congrats to DFC for hosting this event. I know there are financial constraints. So please let’s put our heads together to uplift our beautiful Isle and end the negativity.

Curmudgeonly killjoy… the rest of us had a great time ..I could pick holes all day long … but you know what? this is the most fun event in Dominica bar none. Kids love it, families have a great time .. ladies out in their finery .. and the music is very good if not North sea Jazz level exceptional (they have been going for 50 years .. give us a chance).

BREVE who r they and where they come from ? These guys are great. They performed original songs which are of international standards. I think some attention should be given to these local musical geniuses!

You forgot to mention the performance by Dominican Heston Francis, our own international artist, who also rocked the crowd.
