Applications for 2011 Carnival Queen pageant underway

2010 Queen Marcia Baptiste

Applications for the Carnival Queen 2011 pageant are underway and young women between the ages of 18-24 are asked to submit theirs before the October 20 deadline.

Events Director of the Dominica Festival Committee Natalie Clarke-White says this year’s winner will follow in the footsteps of her predecessors as an ambassador and the face of Dominica.

“To young ladies out there, this is not just a queen show. This is a special occasion where you can represent your country and become an ambassador,” Clarke-White said.

She noted that the role is one that should be taken seriously and encouraged applications from only those who are prepared to see it through.

Marcia Baptiste won the 2010 crown.

Hope to see a class Queen pageant next year . And the DFC need to give girls practice in the intelligence rounds they too boo-boo , can’t answer questions posted think they should ask those questions in patois ….. and absolutely no extra skinny girls please , too much zeb-meg , with low fat

@cyallarz: These young ladies must stop “putting their futures in the hands of the DFC”. Winning a pageant is not the solution to all your problems.

If i had a choice to search for employment versus going up for a queen pageant, I would search for the employment…….especially when we all know that certain contestants irrespective of how good they are, get no support from the DFC.

Then again, since the monarchy has been dismantled, better might be done.

why are you people saying that ugly girls should not apply?
Is pagentry based only on beauty?Do they get any points for being pretty? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about Intelligence,Confidence and Boldness? Ect…
What is the meaning of ugly anyways?Don’t you know that pretty and ugly varies from person to person? Someone you might find that’s ugly may be damn well beautiful in my opinion!

@Bella Feminist: Thats what makes them fail from day one because they have to wait for ride to practice, by the time the man shows up late they arrive at their practice session with a long mouth and totally confused as they had a fight on the way, wait for another to go home as tired as they are, another to work and from work. total dependence on the man who most times don’t have their total interest at heart.
Our young women have to learn to be go getters, achievers. They set short term goals that are never realized once the show is over so please focus on your plan before entering this competition. How happy and fulfilling can one’s life be by just depending on others anyway? sounds a bit empty

@Thanks: Come on be nice to the young lady, but long I have not heard about “pan nose”, lol, guess its all about good humor. Lets just hope they make up proud this year. Please take the Question and Answer round seriously, everything else will follow once you are confident about this Round.

    @.:

Your post is a bit funny; I mean that you made me laugh a bit. But I do not think that we have ugly people in Dominica, so let us not worry about having ugly applicants.

Still for all, true beauty is a virtue that is well hidden, until time has come for it to be revealed. That is the way, the thrill of beauty is better glorified. It is not impossible for a so-called ugly girl to reveal the most enchanting beauty through her attitude and conducts during the queen contests, that it is impossible to deny her the crown.

girls dont wear false hair or animal hair. wear it natural. I wonder what all you would do without false hair or perm

Every year DFC getting later and later in preparations for the show. I think this is disappointing. From since September this should have been out, to start preparing, especially since they are always complaining about the short space of time. Anyways it is a beauty contest along with talent and intellegence. If you are not sure about going up, dont let people persuade you, make it be a decision you make on your own. Queen show takes up alot of time and money from your own pocket. BEWARE!!!

Why the extension when 15 young ladies were interviewed yesterday where a finalist would be selected and are currently awaiting confirmation of their possible selection today? So why this new announcement?

  16. Hmmm?
    October 15, 2010

@!: No ugly thickers for beauty pageant. Ugly slimmers only.

Bad stats, DNO, The headline should read ‘prospective 2011 carnival queen contestants interviewed.’ Cut the crap, 15 girls had their interview yesterday 15 October 2010 and are awaiting confirmation as to who makes the 7 contestants cut.

SOME girls that go up for these modeling and pageant things REALLY are ugly inside and out. And SOME are down right EVIL.

Good luck to the pretty inside and out, humble and sweet, good hearted, focused, humanitarian spirited, independent, upstanding young women of Dominica.

Down with the two-face, self promoting, childish, lazy girls in this country who wait for a man to take care of their every need.

Well if the ugly one, thick and sin….aa

@AshleyF: I’m sure you are short, fat, with a pan nose, steel wool hair, long, thick hanging lips, cross-eyed and yellow teeth.

    @cyallarz:

Maybe you are placing too much importance on this beauty contest. That’s all it is, not an event to provide sustenance beyond the day of the competition.

“To young ladies out there, this is not just a queen show. This is a special occasion where you can represent your country and become an ambassador,” Clarke-White said.

so young ladies if you plan on applying and have any questionable pics on fb, please take them down or ask your friend to take them down,

You mean the next year’s winner will follow the footsteps of her predecessors. I am happy about it but I think that the authorities of the DFC needs to overlook all the short- comings of past pageantry and make them better. Additionally, there needs to be more provisions for the successes of these young people, regardless of where they came from.
