For the first time since its inception, a beachwear segment will be added to the Miss Dominica State College (DSC) Mas Jamboree pageant.

This was according to Chairman of the pageant’s committee, Charlene White-Christian at the official launch held at the DSC Auditorium on Tuesday.

“This year we have added one extra round….the new round is the fourth round and this is the beachwear round,” she stated. “It was felt that the Mas Jamboree has provided quite a number of queen contestants. If you notice from since the show has started every year there is either, one, two or three Mas Jamboree contestants on that pageant, and seeing that the Mas Jamboree basically allows the young ladies to move forward to the Miss Dominica Pageant we felt that why not give them the full thing, a little swimwear on stage.”

Seven young ladies enrolled in different faculties at the institution will compete for the title of Miss DSC Mas Jamboree on February 4th, 2016.

They are Akeysha Valmond, Kerdell Cuffy, Sue-elyn Mayers, Hendrica Smith, Dahlia Bruno, Christine Tavernier and Siedah Charles.

White-Christian made it clear that the young ladies will be in beach wear- “not two-piece, so don’t come looking for two-piece.”

The other segments include a runway round where contestants will so some modeling, followed by talent, thematic wear, evening wear and question & answer.

Director of Student Services, Edgar Hunter said the pageant is faced with some difficulties in receiving sponsors.

This, he said, is due to the passage of Tropical Storm Erika.

He is calling on corporate businesses to come on board to sponsor the contestants.

The event is expected to begin at 5:00 pm, however, organizers haven’t yet decided on a venue since negotiations are still taking place.

Hunter indicated that Triple Kay International Band will be the featured band at the event while Dominica’s other top artistes are expected to perform.

Michele Henderson-Delsol will be the featured artiste and she will be honoured for her contribution to Dominican music.

Meantime reigning Miss DSC Mas Jambore Karla Henry urged contestants to take the pageant seriously but also be cautious and wise enough, “to not allow your academics to lay on the sideline, instead use this pageant as a time management and multi-tasking mechanism.”

She further told participants to keep their grades above ‘A.’

Henry encouraged them to form friendships and encourage others, “do not get caught up in the bitter side of the competition spectrum.”

“Be humble, be keen, be tolerant and stay focused,” she remarked.

The pageant was formed seven years ago at the campus as a small event in the view in bringing Carnival to the school.

BEACHSWIMWEAR on stage, I definitely want a front seat. Be sure tickets are not sold out, now all men should be able to select the winner. Come on girls, let’s do it

This is counter intuitive and countervailing to the cause of the upliftment of the human person which the DSC is suppose to espouse as an ACADEMIC INSTITUTION.

I suppose in the very near future it would not be so hurtful to the sense to hear of an upcoming pre-school bikini pageant.

Young women, use your bodies to glorify God and not parade it around for total strangers. Women have grown too loose in morals and virtue. Get back to God.

Its funny you prepare ladies for Queen Show and none available this year. How long has Ms Jamboroie been on, to me this is the third or fourth show and Queen has been been there for quite awhile.
I thought that was a state college affair, other poeple have taken over the show man. Oh Oh
Why you all included beach wear that does not make sense at all. That round should be kept out. Let the young ladies focus.

OMG! Where has Christmas gone to? Today is the 1st day of December, which really marks the beginning of the Christmas season, with emphasis placed on the birth of Christ and instead, is carnival and beachwear our state owned Christian college promoting? Where are we heading to? We do not have enough sexual molestation going on?

But then again why should I be had on the college for promoting their carnival thing around Christmas time? Does Christmas mean anything in Dominica these days? Didn’t Skerrit remove Christ from Christ-mas in 2009 when he called an election on Dec. 8? Didn’t he do even worse last December 14? Didn’t some evil and wicked men fire bombed the house of Mr. and Mrs. GOM Emmanuel on Christmas day 2010? Well Christmas has been polluted, contaminated, and larking the reverence it once had in DA, thanks to Skerrit.

The sad thing is, both the former Evangelist nor the former Holy preacher will say a thing, because they are spiritual advisor. Truly a fallen nation
