Winner of the first ever Bouyon Monarch title, Carlyn Xavier- Phillip, has been selected to compete in the Arrow Tribute OECS Soca Monarch Competition to be held in Montserrat on March 16, 2016.

The competition is being organized by the government of Montserrat and the St Patrick’s Day Committee.

“I am excited about it, it’s my first actual mission as first ever Bouyon Monarch of Dominica…,” Xavier-Phillip told Dominica News Online.

According to her, she never thought such an opportunity would come shortly after winning the Bouyon Monarch title.

“I thought it was just, you go to the competition, you win the competition and like every other thing, everybody forget about you after the competition, but this one is actually different,” she said. “The organizers are actually following up and they are getting more exposure and opportunities for me to take part regionally.”

Meantime, she encouraged aspiring artistes to follow their dreams and do not allow anything to deter them.

“Even if it means coming to a competition, it’s good to compete, you get to know your strengths, your weaknesses and it makes you a better artiste,” Xavier-Phillip stated.

An ensemble of international nusicians based in Montserrat and the United States will accompany artistes at the competition.

The musical pieces will be adjudicated by a panel of five judges using the guidelines of: Melody 25 percent, Lyrics 20 percent, Arrangement 20 percent, Vocal performance 20 percent and Crowd response 15 percent.

Each artiste is required to render two songs in two rounds of competition

The winner of the competition will take home US$5,000 and each contestant will receive US$700.

  2. I am glad for you girl! All you need to do is be yourself. You naturally have the great virtues and grace which will put you outstanding to the audience–wherever they are. So that is easy for you, just use them accordingly! Remember that what is yours will always be yours–no man can take it away from you.

    Make your people proud, okay!

Bouyon Monarch Competition (BMC) is pushing their winning artist, what is DFC doing for their Soca Monarch? A title presently held by Carlyn XP in the Groovy category by the way.

Don’t change the subject. I was specifically refering to Bouyon. I guess in this case beauty is in the ear and brain of the beholder.

Change the subject? You’re clearly uneducated. According to Make Sense, time for people like you to die out and let others progress

Would you prefer the bouyon artists/band memebers to be involved in illegal activity as opposed to travelling the world celebrating their version of Dominican culture. Yesterday Asa was in France, you don’t think that is progress for a yout man from Grand Bay?
