Calypso Association opens new $750,000 facility today

The Dominica Calypso Association will today officially open the doors of its new facility which cost in the region of $750,000, according to an official of the organization.

The new “Kaiso House” is located on the Bath Estate highway.

DCA Public Relations Officer of the DCA Ian Jackson said this marks a new era in the life of the association.

“Kaiso House will not just represent calypso alone. It represents a movement for culture and we hope that it can be utilized for cultural events and conferences. This is a landmark achievement for calypso in the Caribbean. This is the only association at this time-as far as calypso is concerned-that has achieved so much over thirty years and we are very proud of this achievement,” he added.

The building includes conference facilities, studio, kitchenette office space and rooms.

Jackson is also appealing to local businesses to assist in the furnishing of the new Kaiso House.

A number of officials are expected to address today’s official launching carded for 5 p.m.

Why would the calypso association build a $750,000 Kaiso house? …If it had a record studio they could at least charge the Calypsonians $85 per hour to record while other studios charging $100 per hour, all that would raise money since they would be cheaper than other recording studios. Other local artistes could even pay to record there also. I really don’t see the purpose of this “Kaiso House”. A total waste of money if you ask me!!!
