Carlyn Valmond, “somewhat surprised” that she won as the other participants did “exceptionally well”

Carlyn Valmond of Portsmouth has won the 3rd edition of the Dominica Next Super Model Fashion Extravaganza.

“I’m very happy. I am very honored to have that title,” an elated Valmond told DNO after the show which was held on Friday May 1, 2015 at Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

She said she was somewhat surprised  that she won since the other participants did “exceptionally well.”

Valmond won the awards for the best photo model, best interview model, best professional model and best runway model.

Malietta Valmond of Bath Estate placed second and Min Alde George from St. Joseph came third.

Other awards went to Sephra Durand of Petite soufriere who captured the best punk look model and Leonie Elizie of the Kalinago Territory who got the best Victoria Secret model. Best high fashion model went to Marietta Valmond of Bath Estate.

Only eight out of the ten original models, participated in the show. Delores Harris of San Sauveur and Collen Toussaint from Good Hope pulled out of the competition citing lack of sponsorship as their reason.

Executive Director of Dominica’s Next Super Model Inc, Ruth Augustine, renewed calls for financial support for the event. All in all, she said, she was pleased both with the turn out by patrons and the performances of the participants.

“In my opinion the show was a very successful show in terms of the girls’ execution. It was more than I expected. I am quite sattisfied.”

The winner will receive EC$5000, among other gifts.

Really Dominicans? This show sets a bad example for those really aspiring to become models or having a mere interest in fashion and modeling. The winner selected is does not have the requirements. The organizer of the show needs to take this seriously. Do you think that Tyra Banks would ever take look at Ms. Valmond? You guessed it. No! i don’t think so. She is too short, too fat and does not have the facial structure either. Either way- good try. Only in Dominica these jokes and games happen.

The management of this super-model competitions are basically saying to the world out there that we got women who can match up to models out there . Sad though , I don’t think they know the criteria for recruiting these young ladies , which allows me to be a critic of this show . Carlyn Valmond beautiful girl yet too short and to too fat to be a model your bust:34, waist:24, and hips:34 and your height must be 5’11” tall and weight between 100-125lbs . So Ruth who has that quality upon recruitment should have ensured these requirements met . Further this leads me to say the real gems were unfairly judged and the show was a total mess and discouraging . Ayodelle , Irella , Min-Ald ,Delores , Leonie real model body . I hope and pray if there is another super model next year that the standard will be set .

Why did Jael invite the green eyed monster fashionista to do anything at all in the people’s show? Jael too fast. Jael asked Fashionista to lift the food basket. Fashionista was there because she wanted to still ideas from the show to add to hers.

I am sorry, but this is no super model.

Dominica really needs to stop milking the pageant nonsense.

The “Winner” said she was “surprised”. There is you answer. So it is written , so it is done. Case closed.
Now instead of criticizing the organizers volunteer, help to make a positive difference for the next one, you have a year to solicit sponsors for the girls and the event. Good luck.

The show went down from those of the past 2 years. The venue was poorly decorated. It showed a sign of a lack of funds or miserly behavior on the part of management. the program mentioned red carpet and maybe I was colour blind, but I only saw a white carpet. There was no offering of the usual snacks in the VIP area. So why did we pay $80? To sit in the same area as those who paid $40? Two girls had to drop out in the week of the week of show, because of a lack of funds. this is so sad. So you mean the organization did not have any funds to assist them?

Gael and Miguel did a very weak performance of being the mc’s for the show. first they could not come up with interacts for the show. the idea of using the videos of the contestant in different previous events of the show was so boring. Gael and Miguel turned the show into a personal one, when they called only their friends to compete for the food basket. That was so unfair when we all paid our money. I must applaud the MBA player for turning over the food basket to the birthday girl though. In general, Gael and Miguel must come up with ideas to spice up the show and to include everyone in the impromptu activities.

“Gael and Miguel must come up with ideas to spice up the show and to include everyone in the impromptu activities.” Is this show hosted by Miguel every year….Really?
You people criticize every god dam fing. What talent do you possess? If you think you can do a better job then holla at miss Augustine. Maybe she will consider you as mc for next years super model..

Beauties, please educate yourselves since we do not have an industry in Dominica for pursuing a career in the fashion. Hell, we do not even have a sustainable agriculture or tourism industry much less for fashion. You are a very beautiful young lady. Pursue an education, get a career and you will then be a supermodel. This industry in Dominica is hopeless.

Carlyn did not win the title of DNSM. Marlietta outdid her by far. Marlietta was the best model on the runway. I was quite taken aback when she worked her very high fashion dress and transformed it from orange to blue. I had never seen that before. that alone was reason enough to outdo carlyn. Besides, she presented herself exceptionally in her other rounds. Carlyn looks more like a carnival queen contestant than a supermodel. Even Carlyn’s supposedly high fashion dress was nothing but one that would be used in a carnival queen competition. So judges am not too sure if we watched the same show, but giving the shortest contender of the night, the title of SUPERMODEL shows that you need to attend a lot of training workshops. And we say we want to imitate the likes of Victoria secrets? Take note of the height of the international models. Tell me where would Carlyn work with her professional wear?

so she shouldn’t have won cuz she’s not tall enough? Get out of here

That’s my exact sentiment when I saw the picture of the winner. I think she looks more like a carnival queen than a super model. Am not sure the judges is familiar with the things they look for in models. e.g their facial structure, physics is no doubt she’s a beautiful young lady but not a super model to me

I did wonder about the winner’s height. years ago, and i accept the rules may have changed since, the MINIMUM height was 5’8 ” for a female supermodel.
