Carnival calender begins January 28

Revelers in Dominica last year

An opening parade on January 28 at Pottersville is expected to jump-start this year’s Carnival celebrations.

Events Director of the Dominica Festivals Committee Natalie Clarke-Meade told a press conference yesterday that the original plan was to have the event hosted at the Windsor Park Stadium car park but a “very exciting partnership” with the calypso association has created a new venue at the Pottersville  Savannah, “which DFC would not have been able to afford if we had gone about doing it on our own.”

Clarke-Meade also informed that the calypso quarter finals show is carded for January 28 at the Newtown Savannah though there is the possibility that it may be hosted on the Pottersville Savannah.

The Rotaract Club’s annual Carnival Princess Show is set for February 5, while Leo Club’s Junior Monarch will take place on February 9 at the Carnival City. On that same date, the Kaiso Hall of Fame returns. On February 10, the newly introduced Mr. Dominica show will be presented at the Arawak House of Culture.

A bouyon Fete Fanatik is set for February 11 at Carnival City while the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company Teenage Pageant comes on February 12 at the same venue.

The Roseau City Council and Swinging Stars Lagoon Jam is scheduled for February 13. While Clash of the Tents will take place on February 14.

The National Queen Show will take place on  February 17 and the Calypso Finals the following night.

My personal view carnival is about enjoying ones self and letting go your troubles & stress of the previous months, to me it is about being free and relaxed, it is not about checking revellers to see if they are overweight or not at lease the women I am seeing are well clothed on another note though trust me there must be a venue that we all will be satisfied with, carnival is not carnival without a little controversy. :)

If you can’t say something good, don’t say anything at all. Won’t you taught that by your parents or were you raised in a barn?

well again we have to wait so long to find out what is going on in DA for the carnival there is no mas troupe on the sites for us to see, don’t you want any visitors to take part in your carnival and since in December all place to say we call is saying the full for the carnival what is going on over there.

Hi. Why can’t the DFC put up a calendar of events so everyone can see all the events and venues. Also the Mas camps names ,contact person, telephone number and locations. People like me are coming for carnival and we have to read different post to try and understand what is happening. The Mas camp leaders must advertise and show displays of their costumes.

How is Pottersville a change of venue when it has been happening at this very venue for so many years. Somebody please explain that statement to me.
