Veteran calypsonian The Mighty Chalkdust, has won the calypso monarch title for a record ninth time. He moved ahead of the Mighty Sparrow who won the crown eight times. His song “Learn From Arithmetic” addressed the issue of child marriages.

I see him; I hear him, his voice is the same the amazing thing is that he’s been around for more than fifty years, from way back when I was a kid. He was a school teacher. I remember the late Prime Minister Dr. Erick Williams told him in the late 1960’s he cannot be a calypsonian, and a teacher, he need to chose one or the other, and so he chose calypso!
One of his calypso I love the most is ” Ah Fraid Karl” that one he sang forty-five (45) years ago, he came out with that one in 1972.
Dominica can consider doing one round..its makes for a better song show with tighter performances ,there is too much junk songs in the finals.The quarter finals should be scrapped and replaced with (i) political commentary monarch and (ii) social commentary monarch as one show.Qualifiers should be previous years semi finalists and 12 from eliminations. calypso finals should be on a Sunday. Its just my observation and suggestion.
I love this calypso. I love Karessah’s as well but Chalky’s is classier and nicer than Karessah’s and Karessah is my friend. Just being unbiased.
Karessah could easily win in Trinidad man. Honestly his songs were more entertaining than this.
But this is a weighty song well executed.

Great men think alike.Karessah and Chalkdust. Same theme,Hook in a minor and 75 can’t go into 14.What mastery of calypso.The writers of Dice, Daddy Chess etc. etc. have a lot of notches to climb.

This is no coincidence that the theme for the 2017 Calypso Monarchs of Trinidad & Tobago and Dominica focused on “Child Abuse”. This should be very encouraging for people like Tina Alexander, Delia Cuffy-Weeks, Delroy Williams among others, who are in the forefront in the Mission to protect our CHILDREN.
What a privilege I had to see the Mighty Chalkdust perform on stage. Congratulation to King Karessah, sorry I missed seeing you this time!

The way we talk in Dominica you would swear is Dominican calypso alone ppl names are called and references of ppl names are made bear chalk dust song full of that nobody would dare sue a trini for singing calypso and no way would a judge take the case

Wow! Ninth times Monarch. Congratulations! He must really be good to win that Crown in T & T and with 16 others competing. There is no doubt he will be invited to Toronto especially at Caribana time. Though the name has changed to ScotiaBank Caribbean Carnival (title to that effect), I will still call it Caribana.
Can anyone recall they heard/read some years ago that the late former PM, Manley while PM spoke about composing and singing calypsos He told them to tone down their rhetoric.
Reading the calypso titles, they paid heed. Better to sing about issues that concern the nationals of a country but be discreet about it. These calypsos make for pleasant listening.
In this case I must purchase a CD of the 17 songs. The T& T music also makes for good listening.
To begin with, how could the government allow their young girls (minors) to marry? Of course, the men pay the parents an exorbitant sum. It is like selling them. Is the government not aware of it? The parents of those minors should be arrested and charged.
I listened to a program, Church History, on US Catholic Radio about the beginning of Islam and their actions against the Catholic Church; all Christians for that matter.
Mohammad married an eight year-old girl, if not younger. The condition was that he was not allowed to have sex with her until she was fourteen – around that age.
I do think people of that race who are non-Christians are the ones who allow their girls to marry young, obviously against their will. The government must do something about that.

You roman catholic priest and nuns are at each other throat right now. Hear this: in Los Angeles, homosexual priests rape and molested little boys! The were ordered by the courts to hundreds of millions dollars in restitution to the many victims.
You know what some so call bishop in Los Angeles decide to do, they had some property in the City of Inglewood, you know what that so called bishop decided to do. He sold the property of leaving the nuns with no place to live!
There is another case wright now in court where a nun did the same thing sold a property belonging to your Roman Catholic Church for millions, right now the diocese has taken her to court claiming she had no authority to sell the property.
Lady you need to stop this crap, the roman catholic organization is a satanic organization!
