I supposed we’ve never listened to Gentleman (German), Matisyahu (Orthodox Jewish American) and Collie Buddz (Bermudan) speak, or sing. This guy is doing Jamaican music….not Dominican music. Same concept of say, Michele Henderson saying ‘gotta’ in an R&B song as oppose to ‘got to’….it’s cuz it plays better to the intended target audience, which…srry to say….You (Dominican) are not primarily a part of. Colton does have a long way to go and he is finding his way there through mistakes and missteps…but how about we just watch instead of ‘tryna’ rip him…or any other Dominican artiste…. #MyPeace

this sounds like an interlude for an Album! doesnt sound full and finished! i dont think this is a single it should just be a song on a album. he needs to choose the best songs as single not the ordinary album tracklisting song!

:?: he’s talented no doubt, but whats up with the accent???? its like you’re not proud of where u from u have to put on this front…..you’re from Dominica not Jamaica

how is he going to write well if he doe start somewhere, make mistakes, learn from his mistakes,
criticism is not bad, but doe try to run him out of town, lets encourage him to be himself,i think he is searching for a style, as he mature hopefully he will get better, drop the accent and all that, by no means he has it yet, he just start to get his feet wet.

He’s a wonderful artist and all but he really needs a songwriter who can sit through with him to gather his emotions and thoughts then pen them to paper for him. And to my knowledge he has a song that says we can’t just be friends – now he wants to be friends.

The energy and emotion required to support the lyrical content of this track are missing. It doesn’t sound like the artist if FEELING what he is talking about.
It also comes across as somewhat basic. There isn’t a lot of lyrical versatility in the composition.

Otherwise, it’s a decent effort, for an up and coming artist.

Why do Dominicans on here insist that everyone be “positive” all the time? I see this kind of comment over and over and over. If you think something is trash and have a valid reason for thinking so, say it’s trash. Only undeveloped oversensitive children, people unwilling to interact with reality, want to only hear “positive” things.

So we have to be negative on the weekends?

      • Sam Harris
        April 24, 2012

lol. No. You speak your mind honestly. If you disagree with someone, let it be because you actually disagree with something concrete in what they said, not just because their comment wasn’t “positive.” With that said, those who say something is “garbage” (as below) should be able to explain why they said that, but they should not be attacked merely for not being “positive.” That is childish. We need to grow up….

I made that same comment to someone a few days ago when i saw colton on a tv programme. He was talking with this accent having gone to primary school with the guy then i met up with him in college again. I wondered where the accent came from. But i guess it has something to do with the image he is trying to put forth.
Not much of a fan but i am happy to see him doing good and prospering.

I wish him all the best in his musical endeavours!

Either the haters on this topic just jealous of the young man, or ether they wish they could at least put together one line to sound close to what he is doing.
it bugs me to see our people will just try to tear down positive attempts at personal improvements in a country that have little or no avenue for the youtes.
‘Haters’if you ‘laissez’ the hate and say ‘nothing’ if you can’t say ‘anything’good, you will feel less stress and depress about yourself and your situation.
It appears that this young man is engage in trying to improve his art and is spending a lot of time doing that, which will eventually pay off for him, while the haters are spending the same time doing nothing,as such they have nothing to show for it,so they resort to the crab in a barrel tecnique.
Colton keep doing what you are doing your are on the road of destiny and non of the Haters should deter you, the road is long and rough, be Strong and Tough, you just begin keep on singing.

It is said that if you do not have something nice to say then say nothing at all. But in a case like that negative criticism is needed to better oneslef. Nice voice but rubbish song.

this is not soo bad but its not a summer smasher! maybe he should try more music like asher thomas, chad astaphan and anderson angol! just a sayin… and wats up with the jamaican acent?? is he jamaican???/

    • Ezio Auditore
      April 24, 2012

Precisely! The accent is really stupid and annoying, doubt he’s ever been to Jamaica to begin with. You can’t be something you’re not, be yourself by yourself. Also his genre of music is cool but he could mix it up for a larger fan base.

Not to be negative, but as a music critic, I need some more energy. As Simon Cowell would say, this song did nothing to me.

    • Sam Harris
      April 24, 2012

The thumbs down on a comment like this just go to show how immature some of the people on here can be. A person merely saying a song did nothing for him deserves thumbs down? BS. No artist grows if all he/she hears is “I love it” and “this is great” unless the art really and truly is flawless.

Got a good voice but have to use it on conscious music which sends a positive messages to the world. Music is the only language the whole world can identiy with, so if we are goning that route ,we have to do it wisely. To waste a life time on songs that just last as a fast food does and not doing a thing for the people that are looing to be edify by the message and music.

My assessment of Colton T to those concerned-He has talent; good voice, interesting style/swag but he needs a song writer.

    Take note!

    • bigfan!!
      April 23, 2012

maybe a writer may be a good addition but colton’s songs are about the things he sees as problem in the country some are about his personal opinion on things….he is a young man he sings about things young ppl are going through…..if he allows someone to write his songs fuh him he would be singing about someone else view on things
