Concert planned to commemorate passage of Hurricane Maria

Dominica was devastated by Hurricane Maria in September 2017

Nearly two years after the devastating passage of Hurricane Maria, in September 2017, Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has announced plans to host a free concert, at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, to commemorate the event.

In a press statement this week, Skerrit recalled the ravages caused by the category five hurricane.

“All of us who lived through this experience know it wasn’t easy. We were left in a daze, and the seriousness of our circumstances in the wake of the passage of Hurricane Maria will forever be etched in our memories. She cut us off from our neighbours, took the lives of loved ones, decimated our valleys, scraped our hills and mountains naked, and left us bare and exposed,” he said. “Each of us who survived this life-changing experience has a story… Despite everything, we emerged from this horrifying experience together, and through God’s mercy and guidance, we are alive to see each other’s faces today.”

He praised the “hard work, perseverance, and abiding faith” and suggested that “We, the people of Dominica, have transformed our trials and travails into triumphs.”

According to the Prime Minister, the concert, to be held on September 19, 2019, at 4:00p.m., will be “spirit-filled,” and full of thanksgiving and praise.

“It will be a watershed day in the lives of Dominicans, as together, we shall reflect on the pain and destruction inflicted by Maria on our country, and take a critical look at the results of two years of sure and steady progress,” he explained. “It will be a day of careful thought, sober celebration, and thanksgiving in words, songs, and dance.”

The event will feature local, regional and international artistes such as Ophelia Marie, Michele Henderson, Colton T, Marie-Pascale Affana, Edwin Yearwood, Sarah Ikumu, Kurt Carr, Reverend Shirley Caesar, as well as adult and youth choirs, dancers, drummers, singers and musicians.

Skerrit urged Dominicans to “come together and thank the Lord for delivering us from our darkest moment” and to “continue to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth as we focus on the task of rebuilding our nation.”

Our deep water harbour is a complete mess, we need recycling facilities. Geothermal still there watching us. WE DONT NEED ANOTHER FETE OR PARTY OR CELEBRATION. We cannot eat fete and sewo. Put proper things in place for the country to elevate itself by itself without your hand having to interfere after. But no, concert you want to put for the people. Go ahead, think of all magee to do with the money you holding and hiding. We watching you.

First, ask your doctor doctor to help you out with some English. Second, find out the meaning of commemorate. Third, ask yourself why would a government spend money to import artists to celebrate a devastation rather than using those funds to ensure that all constituencies have adequate, safe hurricane shelters. Last, but certainly not least, who are you to determine who should be in the country or not? It takes hard work to stand outside the financial center so I feel for you. No one is living off your not-so-hard work. Do enjoy your concert.

In the middle of the hurricane winds and rain yours truly the illustrious PM and self appointed minister of finance said he was on the internet on Facebook saying his roof was blown off. How was he able to get on the internet when all communications towers were blown down and communications including radio was wiped out. Was he really on Dominica during the hurricane or did he have magic internet. He could have been in Florida at his house, it would have been easy to say you are on Dominica when you are really in another location getting on the internet.

Let he who Is without sin cast the first stone. John 8:7. I’m neither Labor nor UWP. Dominicans it’s time to unite that’s the only way blessings will come. Pastors and people of DA stop making politics your God and bread and butter. Some of you pastors instead of helping the nation come together you are stuck in the world of politics casting stones. You all are no different from those that don’t know Christ. You all are acting the same as the unbelievers and gossiping about politics the same. Give unto Caesar what is Caesar and unto God what is God. Matt: 22:21.Pastors pray instead of being part of all this Malay. God call us Christians to be different and set examples. Walk the walk not just talk it.

Apparently the PM really continues to play with Yahweh! James 3:10Out of the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, this should not be! 11Can both fresh water and bitter water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree grow olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.…

Then again God has away of giving people chances!! If this nation and it’s people don’t truly repent !! When God begins to pour his judgment let’s just hope that WE ourselves are in right standing with God!!! I know He will save His people and destroy the rebellious who refuse to repent by turning away from their evil ways

    August 23, 2019

This thing has all the ingredients of the image Nebuchadnezzar wanted to be worshipped in Daniel 3. First there was the popularity 2. There was the Dedication like we saw in the Skerrit Dedication two weeks ago. 3. Their was the Worship. Skerrit calls this one praise concert but the same 4. Nothing about the show of Nebuchadnezzar had anything to do with God but rather, a gathering of the brains, the spiritual ones, the musicians etc to come and worship Nebuchadnezzar since the image they were to bow down and worship was an image of himself. Similarly, Skerrit’s intention is not for people to come praise and thank God. No man Skerrit wants people to come and worship him for causing those trees to be green again and the few houses he built with our passport money. That’s what it’s all about. So now he knows he tarnished our passport so he wants to use God as his passport. But Me nou in this Margie of Skerrit. You sold yourself to the devil to do all kinds of evil and now you want…

For a country that is a perpetual recipient of foreign aid, how can this man justify wasting precious resources on a concert? We are badly in need of hospitals in Portsmouth and Marigot, the roads are in substandard condition and the list goes on. Yet he finds the best thing we need is a “free” concert?

I don’t understand that mindset. I would never in a million years manage my money that way. When you have limited resources, you have to be smart about how you spend your money. You have to prioritize needs over wants.

This man is single-handedly destroying the country. We used to be a very resilient people, now he has reduced the populace to a nation of beggars, both as a country and on an individual basis.

It saddens me to see what this man is doing to our country.

Skerrit and his no backbone surrogates are using every opportunity to exploit the people’s religious beliefs. Ever so often, in recent times, they have faith based events 🙏 to play on the citizens’ Christian beliefs
Look at their action and their evil, biased policies that have so many living in perpetual poverty. Their religious events are incongruous with their devious and crippling political and economic strategies. Everything that Skerrit does is intended for political advantageousness. Don’t be fooled any more.

    Gooooooood day to allll..
The best way to give thanks to God is by our actions, thoughts and words… Thanking God is not an event per se it is doing the will of almighty God on a daily basis. It is serving him through others from a religious, political, social, financial and other life giving perspectives…
Its alll goood to give thanks by bringing artists n pastors others. But what happens the next day when you and other politicians teaar each other down, cause division? Knowing how you guys operate, one is tempted to think that this is just another smart move by the Pm n his team to rally supporters as they do during campaigns… Why didn’t the Pm bat in his criss and allow religious leaders n non partisan Dominicans put the program together..
Good idea, but am not a one day or two hours Christian, cause Thanksgiving is telling the people where the money gone and stop playing politics with the country’s goods n services.. Ps 23, 30, 41, 21 n 51

So the PM is using the name of the Lord to make himself look good and for the nation to feel sorry for him. So wot about the ppl still under trampoline?
My ppl this is a scam so please don’t fall for that showrade.
The PM is trying to find ways to disburse the 1 billion plus dollars so he can make an account for its spending.
PM, rather than continue to waste our resource on this unnecessary concert I advise you invest the monies into our culture. Get your ministry of culture to meet with the various groups, utilise some of that money.
This concert is a serious waste of monies, this isn’t a fee meal, we know you will be paying the foreign artist a substantial amount of cash to participate.
What I’ve notice is when the PM want out sympathy he tone of voice seems humble but I see a different tone when he decides to insult and vent his anger on those who doesn’t agree with him.
Overall, I’m encouraging Dominica to boycott that concert.

    This is my 3rd Entry:

So between the ways of Job and our ways in Dominica, unbelieving as it may sound, our training and discipline from God, through difficult measures, and His quick response, indicates that He still loves us, that is the reason He wants us to be His perfect people.

God returned to Job and gave him 3 times what he had lost–including a wife and his 10 children.

Notice that no sooner did He allow the enemy to strike us, it must be through the humbleness of PM Skerrit, who cried to the World about the wrath of Maria) the quicker He came to rescue us, through our Leader, Sir Roosevelt Skerrit. God is made of Love, mercy, and compassion,

I hope that this coming concert will be a “testimony” of how God can break us, to bring us to His attention, and the way He can return and remake us.

Dominicans, let us strive to remain with our God, doing the things which give Him delight, for it is our Food to Him. Let us give Him praise

I trying to stay away from politics but I can’t tolerate nonsense. Skerrit with his hypocrisy causing “praise” to lose its effect. How dare you Skerrit hide your hypocrisy behind praise concert? Is this what praise comes down to? Sir, as a servant of God I feel compelled to warn you because you will cause more wrath on our country. First let me remind you of the following scriptures:
” Let him that stole steal no more” Eph. 4:28

    Exodus 20:13, 14, 15

    13 “You shall not murder.

14 “You shall not commit adultery.

    15 “You shall not steal.

But I left verse 7 for last because it carries a very serious warning

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain Exo. 20:7

  21. August 22, 2019

    Entry#2
Dominicans, we claim to be a God-fearing people but is our claim in our works? Faith in Job caused him to do good works, but he used those works to glorify himself, not God!

Dominicans, is that the way we are? We claim to believe in God, we say we are His God-fearing ones; but who gets the Medal and Trophies for our works of Love? It God’s merit, not ours!

So those are the times when God allows the enemy (Satan) to come against us, as forceful as He plans it to be, for Satan, is under the authority of God

Hurricane Maria, TSErika, along with other afflictions and hardship in our lives, are the ways God tells us that we are not who we claim to be through our relationship with Him

TSErika, Hurricane Maria, are the ways God tells us, all is not well with Him and us. He is telling us our conscience is weak, our mind is not responding, and it must be disciplined; painful as it has to be, for with God there is no other way.

“and through God’s mercy and guidance, we are alive to see each other’s faces today.”–News Article

That is the most profound line of the News Article. And it is great to hear it coming from PM Skerrit, himself.

The story of Job, in the Bible, is one of the greatest, examples teaching us why God allows that difficult hardship and afflictions against us, just to return and show us how to overcome the despair and distress which we face.

God allowed Satan to the buffet Job for a period of 40 years, before He returned to Job to rebuild him

The question is: “Why did God allow Job to go through that kind turmoil, just to return His mercy and compassion to Job? We, Dominicans can ask the same question.

Job had the “sickness” of “self-righteousness”–he believed in God, but he did not glorify God, for his fame and fortune of his works. Job was so stiff in self-righteousness he believed that he was higher than God, Himself. –see my next entry.

To PM Roosevelt Skerrit, who has the spirit of Pilate:

    Luke 13:1-5

1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

  27. Wilderness Voice
    August 22, 2019

The Psalmist David would have us remember in Psalms 51:16-17

16 Offerings and sacrifices are not what you want.

17 The way to please God is to feel sorrow deep in our hearts.
This is the kind of sacrifice God won’t refuse – Contemporary English Version (CEV)

Folks, we must stop using God’s name in vain. It is wrong to use God’s name to buy votes. We did that during the 2014 elections when we had no storm and no hurricane to commemorate. It was an election Skerrit wanted to win and he brought down Donnie McClurkin. But although he won the election, with help from election fraud, clearly heaven was not happy, as Erika came less than a year later, followed by Maria less than two years later. My message to Roosevelt Skerrit is very simple: Skerrit, you can fool some laborites but you can’t fool God. Skerrit STOP playing with God Sir. Roosevelt Skerrit, the Apostle Paul would have you remember this:

Galatians 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Galatians 6:8 “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”

Skerrit you CANNOT sow CORRUPTION and reap BLESSING. Stop hiding behind religion because no matter where you hide be sure that your EVIL will find you out!!!

Even while deceiving the people Skerritt is still making a mockery of God. The concert will feature high prices artists. Who will be paying for them. Lest we forget that there is no free lunch. Two years after the hurricane there are still multitude of people in tents. Those who are not in tents still have tarpaulin on their houses. If Skerritt really loves Dominicans so much why the force about a free concert when in fact and in truth it is not free. The treasury will have to foot the bill for those artist. So why not spend the money on some of the needy ones in the communities who desperately need repairs to their houses? It is just another political ploy by Skerritt knowing that Dominicans are blind and love freebs. Dominicans need to check their morals and value and stand up to Skerritt and his tactics. Why isn’t he making WCMF free for all to commemorate the second anniversary of the passage of the hurricane? That’s too good for those broke and hungry Dominicans. Shame on…
