Zouk legend Franky Vincent forms part of the line-up for WCMF 2014

The Dominica Festivals Committee (DFC) officially unveiled part of its line-up for the 18th edition of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) at a media launch on Wednesday evening.

The line up so far consists of a mix of Zouk, Compa, Soca, Bouyon, Afro Beat, Cadence and Reggae.

Zouk heavyweight Franky Vincent, Compa legend Tabou Combo and local Bouyon sensation, Triple Kay Global forms part of the line up.

Other acts include Jah Cure (Jamaica), Kerwin Dubois (Trinidad), Ti Vice (Haiti), Destra (Trinidad), Flavour (Nigeria), Denise Belfon (Trinidad), Class (Haiti).

Local acts include Midnight Groovers and Xtasy.

The rest of the line-up will be announced at a later date.

At the launch, Digicel announced that it will be the platinum sponsor of the event for the ninth consecutive year.

Tourism minister, Ian Douglas, described the event as the biggest and most important of the island’s tourism product and said it has been the most successful music festival in the region.

He said hotels are already reporting heavy booking for the festival.

The 18th WCMF will be held from October 24 to the 26 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium.

every year is Triple Kay then? stupes what about Fanatik? Caribbean Vybes? Even Ti Orkest not Triple Kay again……..I tired with d bang bang bang KKK calling music

I’m tired of them too and disappointed that our music has come to this, but unfortunately they are the only band with music of their own. Fanatic and Caribbean Vibes both play other peoples songs. If they want to be considered, they need to take their skill to the next level and produce something original.

Now that Mr. Piper thinks it has matured, it needs to be leveraged better, advertized heavily to promoters, producers, music industry to where many of thes small artists become ancious to pay their way to ‘showcase’ their talents at ‘The WCMF’. It’s ok to have them but keep in mind many many artists like Jah Cure cannot even hold concert on their own.

I know Piper and the crew think that Nassio Fontaine is expensive, but wait…Nassio Fontaine’s music is way more popular than Jah Cure’s in D’a. I have seen not only Jah Cure but other J’a artists that sing and record to the hot plate riddim compilations we hear all the time and promoters don’t spend on none of them to appear on their own like Beres Hammond does. Promoters always put them in a night’s lineup with five or six other artists. So why pay them the money and complain the same money is too much for …..Nassio Fontaine?? Common Piper, lame excuse, go out of your way to give us our own hot artists.

Here’s an idea for you, because of her caliber, you can still bring Angelic Kejo to WCMF – that’s world class act, even though she just did the Jazz fest in Possie.

3 Trini soca stars really i wonder when will these trini stars bring WCK ASA Triple K just name a few to Trinidad to be part of their concert and get some exposure, I feel the same way about the Jamaicans. In Dominica we are very good at exporting everything even our creole festival profits when are we going to learn.

The line up is ok , with the exception of Jah Cure. Jah Cure should be paying us to come to Dominica we shouldn’t be paying him.
DFC please improve on sound system , it was too poor last year , we need to be up to date with technology,we need line array speakers .

R&B majors?Remember this is a CREOLE festuival. If I want to see/hear or R&B or Jazz I would go to St. Lucia or Barbados,. Easier to reach, better hotels etc. There would be no point in Dominica hosting such a music festival. We only make sense if we remain unique. if the truth hurts so be it.

I am joining the protest. We need to add Nasio fountaine to the line up. We need to give him the flowers before he dies. Come on DNO. Start the poll.

    • cmf
      June 27, 2014

that makes a lot of sense. i love his music and we shouldn’t wait until he dies to say how great an artist he was when we never really show cased his music

  11. June 26, 2014

Poor line-up. if not 100%, 90% of these artistes have performed in Dominica already and recently to begin with Jah Cure! I never thought he would return to the island, far less so soon.
What about Nasio who we have abandoned for so long? This WCMF needs to be spiced up. They did a good job last year, but this year’s line-up is not too impressive

Hmmm… I don’t intend to sound bias or insult anyone, but the package thus far looks recycled to an extent. I know some of the people on the selection committee of the WCMF and quite frankly they are not people who knows music that well. Thats why they keep recycling artist over and over again.
They could replace JaCure with Daville or Gentleman. Tabou Combo also insulted the crowd and Mr. Hyacinth the last time they performed in Dominica. Class is a good kompa band but just how many people knows there music. How do the promoters intend to highlight the artist performing apart from having a minute clip on their website.
Flavor is a good addition to the line up but the question is ; Is he coming with his band or is he gonna have a local band back him up like Bracket last year to give a mediocre performance. We also seem to be forgetting the salsa/Latin aspect of the festival that the originator (Eddie Toulon) tried to fuse in the lineup.
I hope the balance of the lineup are not par entertainers.
Great Job last year with the exception of Tito Pointay Jr.
Hope this year will follow up/\,………..T

That festival should be a Local, Caribbean and American Praise festival canvasing all genres. Only what is done for Christ will last. Right now it’s a waste of money, talent and resources glorifying sin instead of God.

    • Anonymous
      June 26, 2014

I agree. There should be NO VIP tickets. The DFC would not lose anything, on the contrary they would save money by not having to entertain these people. If they do want to come fine but let them pay like everyone else and if they do not want to mix with the common folk that is ok too but let them pay for sitting in the better seats, just like in the theatre or opera. They getting enough privileges already.

why bring jahcure back? didn’t he insult us just recently? isn’t there another person to sing?
something i find funny why do J/A people have to be at our festivals and we are not even invited to theirs. please somebody educate me. i don’t see the reason; they don’t speak creole. Reggae is not creole music as far as i am concern, so what about these people on the line up every year? why?
Any reunion of old bands this year?
What of Freddie N, Fitzroy W and the other greats like them?

Nice to see the big zouk artists from abroad but I don’t see why Jah Cure is included. Its Creole Fest. That;s the same crap which happened when Sean Paul was allowed to prance around on stage for over two hours, cutting down the performing time of Oliver N’Goma to only half an hour, when O.N. IS the true Creole artist!

Another thing, every year, all these bands and artists perform and yet after all these years, the DFC still claims that they are not making a profit. Perhaps its because they are paying these foreign artists too much money to perform, ensuring that the monies go abroad and not showcasing enough of our Dominican artists. However, I’m glad that triple kay was not included because its embarrassing that they go prancing around on stage wanting to “go down in people’s sousse.” and not presenting anything of real substance.
