Roseau, Dominica: — Less than a week after the official launch of the annual World Creole Music Festival, the Dominica Festivals Committee, the producer, is preparing to fully roll out its event management plan for the staging of the event which is scheduled to be held from October 28-30 at the Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau, the capital of Dominica.
The festival which is now in its 15th YEAR, will this week begin to focus on areas such as media relations, waste management, venue design and operational procedures, marketing and promotional activities.
According to Natalie Clarke-Meade, the DFC Events Director, this week is expected to be a busy week for the events management team with lots of attention to be paid in putting the core team together, finalizing contracts with major service e providers and ensuring that the events plan is in place to begin major operational and organizational work for this year’s festival.
“This week we hope to be in full gear and will be rolling out our event’s management plan”, says Clarke-Meade. “After a very successful media launch last week, we cannot now drop the ball. Our hope is to use the coming weeks to bring our core team together and to ensure that all the main players involved in the planning of this major event understand their roles and functions as of now”, Mrs. Meade explains.
The 15th annual World Creole Music festival is being planned and produced by the Dominica Festivals Committee, a body responsible to the Discover Dominica Authority. The WCMF is a three night music and cultural event produced by the DFC to expose all forms of indigenous popular music of the Creole speaking world including Cadence-lypso, Zouk, Kompas, bouyon, as well as other genres of Caribbean and African music such as calypso, Soca, Reggae/dance hall and African rhythms influenced by or made popular among Creole speaking in the Americas.
The WCMF has attracted all of the top artistes and groups from among the Creole speaking world as well as leading acts in reggae and calypso music in its 14th previous edition. The main headiners for this year’s festival include Haitian Kompas band CARIMI; Ali Campbell- the legendary voice of UB40; veteran reggae band, THIRD World; Jean-Phillip Martelley (of Kassav fame) and his Band, Jeff Joseph and Gramacks/New Generation Band, Reggae superstar Gyptian; a galaxy of Zouk stars from the French West indies; along with local acts WCK, Swinging Stars, Triple Kay and Midnight Groovers.
The main sponsors for this year’s festival are the Government of Dominica, presenting corporate sponsor, Digicel, along with a number of other corporate sponsors and partners including, the Dominica Brewery and Beverages, Alliance Francaise, Tropical Shipping, COURTS Dominica, Waitukubuli National Trail, and Josephine Gabrie
i sorry im not gonna leave the states to come down for that!! very disappointed by this line up!!!
Not one sokous BAND!!I thought it’s suppose to be a Creole Festival..
very disappointed..the same old bands…the dfc acting to cheap!!!give people good bands for their money!!!
this year is gonna b 15 years..and i was really looking to a more spectacular line up than this crap..choops…
they need to send for sakis from africa and loketo…we want to hear some sookous music!!!!
it seems the dfc doesn’t want to invest in big bands…back in the 90s creole fest use to be hot..they use to have bigger and better bands and the tickets were way cheaper..
another band they shld send for KOOL SESSION from st.thomas!!!!
remember, it’s a business and businesses need to turn a profit or close. tickets dont need to be cheaper. folks have money, at least those interested.
Cool line-up… will be there for the fun of it…still cheaper than St. Kitts and Lucia…
Waiting to see how it rolling this year… but next year would really like to see fresh music blood for sure! Come on business people…all yuh making plenty money round this time every year because of WCMF…invest so we can get bigger and more popular artiste here nuh man! DFC does not have a money tree but DA has plenty business who do not want to invest! Cashlow…all about the cash flow
I love the soca artist from Trinidad they are great but I would bring Skinny Fabulous, Talpree, Baby Killer, Spectrum from the V.I etc or any other Island who supports us. Apart from Daddy Chess who goes to Trinidad at the end of the day no one knows who he is I would not bring any Trinidad or Jamaican Artist on creole festival they come take our money don’t appreciate our culture and we barely get a big up in their songs (apart from Buju) when they mention island names. It is a creole festival time for our Artist to shine and get paid bring all the french bands we also have reggae stars here. Stop crying we never make money in the fest and get smarter line ups.
i will be happy to see fay ann my woman
yh for real d line up is not all dat promising nuh. I tired see d same old shit every year, I woulda love to see Red Hot Flames, Cool Sessions Brass, maybe somebody from d Gaza family…vybz kartel?popcaan/jahvinci maybe??? i dont think d festival should be limnited to kasssav and carimi who play the same songs every year. ppl tired see them bands there, as for carimi.
Azzzzzz for CARIMI
NASIO FOUNTAIN AND I WILL BE THERE.
I would do anything to see Nasiio perform again!
that line up sucks! geez!!! give me sumting to leave new york and come down for nuh…that line up is of no interest to us young people well MAYBE except gyptian but damn its boring!
stay home.
great line up BFC but you guys could add a trini soca artist to thiat maybe KES & the band or MAchel montano but then again dominicans probably would say they see machel montano already………
ungrateful ppl why dont they make a band so we can bring them to sing instead of criticizing the experts stupes
Where Fay-Ann Lyons from nah?? someone plz tell me cuz last time I chk she was a trini eh.
Not impressd with the line up at all. DFC come better than that. Hope the price will go down
THe line up is not nice.uh uh.Boring this year. Last year’s was so proper!!!
kassv for how many yrs sing the same songs over and over and over in the same patern i can listen to a kassav show and know exactly know what song coming up next same ole sh**
is Ali Campbell really coming or not…hmm
havent seen that on his tour section of his website!!
keeping fingers crossed dont think its profitable for that english bloke..wont be surprise at all if he backs off that unprofitable contract for him in my view!!
Moron!!
someone tell me what music of substance does jeff joe of grammacks have, pl,pl,pl,
that a good question jeff joe just want to be there he alway dominica and the festival still have to put him up in a hotel for the festival where is fanatik band instead of grammacks cool session brass is another good bad if the festival was smart they would have digicel sponcer one nite lime the second nite and the beers carib beer heniken kubuil beer that would be big instead on digicel dont get me wrong digi doing a great job but to have it bigger that plan would work out great it just a thought
you have a point you know> never thought of it in that way though.
Yeah really!!Why isn’t wcmf concentrating on the rest of grammacks who are fully functional even recording albums?I think Soul kervin teepam and the rest would give us a better performance this time around eh.
I WOULD JUST THROW DFC IN THE RUBBISH
well folks make sure you bring a pillow and your sleeping bag in case you wanna take a nap
SAME OLE, SAME OLE!!!
the line-up is kind of ok but i still feel that wck & triple kay are the same so i would elimiate one of them an bring onyan & burning flames that just my opion ok
I thinking the same thing. Why no Burning Flame???
FOR REAL..
why so they can bring more bands like UB40?
thats it people? after last years disapointment i am already disapointed in the line-up… come on man, turn up de thing
hmm
