DNO/Q95FM launch new QTS platform

As of today (Tuesday 22nd May 2012) Dominica News Online (DNO) readers will have access to a page on the website dedicated to the 2012 Q Talent Search.

DNO is partnering with Q95FM to provide a platform to get the word out to our thousands of readers and social network friends and followers, through this dynamic interactive Q Talent Search display page with live links to the most popular social networks.

“Q95 is happy to partner with dynamic professional media leaders like Dominica News Online (DNO) and ComeSeeTV to showcase the Creative talents of Dominica’s Youthful Rising Stars to the Caribbean and to the rest of the world, in order facilitate their access to international music & entertainment industry leaders, as a stepping stone for their entry into the right niche market within the global music industry” says Q95fm Radio’s CEO Sheridan Gregoire.

DNO’s CEO, Tim Durand, sees his organization’s involvement with QTS as “a worthwhile undertaking because of the positive avenue the competition provides for young people to express themselves, to showcase their talents and also because of its cultural and entertainment value to our readers”.

The objectives of the QTS competition are to:

  • Discover Dominicans with the best talents
  • Provide them with a medium to display that talent
  • Find or create opportunities for them to secure the widest possible exposure
  • Assist them with the necessary training to enhance their creative talents
  • Mobilize support for their participation in competitive engagements and competitions
  • Encourage and support them in their search to achieve excellence and international competitiveness

The annual competition, launched in 2010, runs live-to-air on the radio, over a period of nine months each year. The event comprises two components; one for youth under the age of 16 entitled QTS U16 which airs on Sundays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and the other entitled Q Talent Search (QTS), for young people who are 16 and over, which airs daily Monday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.

Approximately 600 young people call QTS to sing via telephone, out of which about 90 of the best singers are selected to participate in closed auditions before a panel of judges. Their scores are augmented by texts and calls from listeners to the show. 32 of the best singers are chosen to participate in three on-stage competitions, at the end of which, one is crowned QTS Champion, and is rewarded with a recording contract for a CD with 10 songs and a promotional music video among other things.

Approximately 400 younger people call QTS U16 to sing via telephone on Sundays, out of which approximately 60 of the best singers are selected to participate in a Clash of the Qualifiers Live-To-Air Competition. Their scores are augmented by texts and calls for listeners to the radio show. The best eighteen (18) U16 singers are selected to participate in the Q Talent Search on-stage shows, and at the Spectacular Christmas Cheers Awards Show and Grand Raffle, where all winners are rewarded with valuable prizes made up of cash and gift items.

The Q Talent Search, says Gregoire, “is a top Q95FM mission to help young people achieve their dreams”.

i think the qts should have a variety of different talent in the competition something like how Americas got talent is, like dances comedy etc and then the best win….everything is singing singing singing…and is the same set that going up every year just a few new faces..
