Musicians in Dominica are benefiting from a two-day master class workshop hosted by Élan Parle’ a six member musical band from Trinidad and Tobago which will be performing at the 7th Annual Jazz ‘n Creole Festival to be held at the Cabrits National Park in Portsmouth on May 15.
The first of the two workshops which was for children, was held at the Alliance Française on Friday May 13 and the other is being held on Saturday May 14. The workshops are catering for some forty children and adult musicians.
“It is important to host the workshop because what students engage with is what they will continue to deal with, so if you don’t provide access to the music and learning then what they have is what’s popular and what’s on the radio which is not necessarily what is investable,” Band member, Anthony Woodroff, said during an interview with Dominica News Online (DNO).
“So when you give them access, then more likely in the future, they are going to become the public that comes out to the shows or even the musicians that play, so it is very important,” he explained.
Meantime Band leader and keyboard player, Michael “Ming” Low Chew Tung told DNO that this will be the first time that the band will be performing at the Jazz ‘n Creole Festival and they plan to do their best.
“We are going to try our best and give 110 percent,” he stated. “We think we will win some new fans when we are done.”
He said so far the band is enjoying the stay in Dominica and will return to perform the 8th Annual event next year if the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) sees it fit to invite them.
