For the first time ever, Dominica will be represented in this year’s miss Caribbean US beauty pageant.
Nelisa Smith was chosen to represent Dominica where she was born and raised in the west coast villages of Salisbury/St.Joseph. She resides in Brooklyn, NY.
This is her third pageant. In 2006, she won the crown in the Miss Dominica USA pageant and was a contestant in Madame Wob Dwiyet US 2009.
With a degree in liberal arts and a new focus in criminal justice, she pursues her second degree at a highly accredited private New York university, which she’ll attend this fall on a partial scholarship.
Smith says, “I am honored to represent my country and I’m elated for having this opportunity.”
The 10-year-old organization was founded by it’s current CEO and President, Yolanda Wallace, a Trinidad native.
The show will be held on July 10th at 2:30pm in Philadelphia,PA, at the Freedom Theatre.
Dominicans are encouraged to show their support.

hi cuz, well just reading about you now i am so happy for you wishing you all the very best in your studies and good luck at the pageant.
just don’t forget your roots. Visit your home once in a while.
Young lady, I do not know you, however; I do want to wish you all the best in your representation of Self and Dominica. Pay no heed ot those who spew negativity without fully understanding the parameters of what was put fourth in the article. All the best to you and I hope you win, more exposure for us and the capabilities of our people.
u go my gal do your best. u know i got your back all the best .
You go girl i know you can do it, i know you very well went up for the same show madam wob in jersey, even if you did not mak it in the top three that don’t men yo was not able to make it indeed you did your best so ust put ur bes as always and reach for the crown my dear i will contact you soon
Some dominicans are so small minded, they choose not to go educate themselves on certain issues they just sit in their quarters n talk a bunch of bullshit. as the flyer said its miss caribbean usa pageant so how in the hell can miss dominica even participate, some of u seem to be a bunch of air heads. Miss nelissa I as a true dominican that visit my country n help my fellow country men say to u,u have support in many places u seem to be an educated young lady after all u got accepted at a top university. Go out and do ur very best give dominica another crown and place us even larger on the map.don’t let the words of some negative, pessimistic dominicans keep u from reaching for the stars. And we ask ourselves why our homeland is so backward, on such a simple thing u hear so many negative comments. People lean to encourage each other when we seek advancement.
What does that mean” for the first time ever”
Two years ago I went to a miss Caribbean US beauty contest in Maryland where a dominican born from the Marymount university in Virginia won the crown in great style. Her name is Chardelle Moore of Grandbay.
well i will have to go with trini
that da girl dont know where se come from
so lets go trini
BAWI MASIVE!! We support you fully!!! You are a dedicated, educated and disciplined young lady.. and we are proud of you!!
BEST OF LUCK!!!
good luck..represent ur country proudly
You guys are a bunch of Sots! There are lots of pageants in the North East USA where people of that particular island represent their Country. Encourage and support the girl and stop criticize. None of you all cannot do better so chill!!!
as i see it
wat happen to the real miss dominica
she should be the one to represent dominica
in philly where that girl come from.
Silly is this not stated miss Caribbean US Beaty Pageant it means a caribbean native now a us national is the criteria for entry sort this is not a local or regional or Dominican institution pageant shut you all ill informed minds—maybe u all should have pushed for Ms Fagan to be A Dominican in the us for an extended period as part of her Prize then if she was left out u all would Comment Ms Dominica Ms Fagan has a busy lead ahead as she prepares for regional pageants where island states are requested to send their representatives BAWI AHEAD — lets go girl rep your island to the fullest and add another crown to Dominica’s external Crowns more publicity remember “you are Dominica “
As I have said before it is important to do some research prior to posting comments. If you visit the site as recommended in the article you would note that the pageant is open to Caribbean nationals in the diaspora:
“The Miss Caribbean U.S. pageant is a yearly event that seeks to highlight the talent, beauty and diversity of the Caribbean diaspora in Philadelphia.
but what is that for me nah.. where mazel come out nah..i how is now ar foo ar we thing that going down there papa
