Dominican to audition for popular US TV show, “The Voice”

Peter Codrington

Dominican-born student in the US, Peter Whenrick Codrington, is preparing for what could be the greatest moment of his life thus far when he auditions in the 16th season of America’s most prominent television show, “The Voice.”

The 20 year-old Codrington, who was born and raised in Dominica, is currently an Aeronautics major at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in the United States.

In a recent interview, Codrington expressed his delight at being afforded this potentially life-changing opportunity.

“This is a tremendous opportunity in my life that I consider an asset both for myself and my family…” he said, “I have worked extremely hard on my voice to make it distinctive than the rest of the contestants… I think I am ready for this occasion and make it the most entertaining moments of my life…  I never thought that I would be given this chance by ‘The Voice’ producers and yet here I stand, ready for the audition!!”

Codrington started singing since he was just four years old and initially displayed his vocal talent as a Cantor of the Portsmouth Roman Catholic Church in Dominica’s second town. He also sang the National Anthem at his school’s NCAA Division Basketball Games. He was motivated to test his fortune in “The Voice” by the encouragement he received from his family and friends because of his excellent voice.

When asked how he feels to be the first Dominican to audition for “The Voice,” Codrington replied, “Well… it is not the time to get ahead of ourselves. It’s just a mere audition to the producers of the show. I hope that I am provided a slot in the blind audition or even extend this journey as far as I could”

The audition will be held  on the 24th of Februaryat at Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Best wishes to Peter Codrington as he prepares for this incredible moment in his life.

This surname is alive and well in DA especially in Barroui, my grand mother was a Codrington (she had two half siblings). Her father was from either Barbados or Trinidad.

    SHOWCASING TALENT

Whatever his ‘…dreams; …hopes and aspirations’ maybe, a very good place and start in ‘…Showcasing his Talent’, while promoting his country of birth.

  28. January 6, 2019

    Congratulations
Dominicans pick and choose the comments they make. I guess if it is not politics then the comment section is empty. I find that to be laughable
Here is a young man, ambitious and proud to be from his island who is doing something great and no comments? but if it was to jump on Skerrit back then the comments would be endless
    Only Dominicans.
No wonder we are making progress at a snails paste we only highlight the negatives.

    • Sisserou
      January 6, 2019

So let the negatives continue to corrupt our nation? Addressing the ills of the country and promoting this talented young man are not mutually exclusive. But I know you’re an apologist so that’s the logic you’d use.

    • De Observer
      January 6, 2019

Maja, well said! Congratulations young man…wish you much success!

    • don2fresh
      January 7, 2019

I agree with you 100%. I ALWAYS tell Dominicans that. If the people of a country is not ready and willing to take their country to the next level, no matter what the government do or say, the country will remain stagnant. The people are the backbone of the land and should act as such.
No one isn’t saying to keep the negative in the dark but alas, highlight the positivity with the same energy they do the negative.

I was born and raised in Dominica and never heard of that surname in Dominica either. Until on one visit home at the airport, someone called and I turned around thinking it was me, turned out it wasn’t. Think my husband mentioned a long time ago an uncle moved to Dominica. Seems that’s where it started. Congratulations to the young man. May he represent Dominica well.

      January 6, 2019

He is from Portsmouth. We migrate a whole lot so name no longer sticks to a particular country but Codrington is a very old name in the Portsmouth. know your names history in DA.

    • De Observer
      January 6, 2019

“Codrington” originated from Barbuda in Antigua. Actually it is the capitol of Barbua, named after Mr. Codrington. So there may be some connections…
