One of the fast emerging musical groups on the Dominican music scene over the past few years, Extasy Band from the now storm ravaged Petite Savanne community, will make a return appearance at the 19th edition of the World Creole Music Festival when they perform on night one, Friday 28th October, Festival City, Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Roseau, Dominica.
Extasy Band which specializes in diverse forms of Creole music with their signature sound of Kompas music will be one of the local highlights at this year’s festival. The group which became well known in 2015 for their civic mindedness following the devastation and destruction caused in their home community of Petite Savanne by the passage of Tropical Storm Erika, this time will be in the spotlight for their great musical talents.
Extasy Band became very involved in fund-raising activities in the post-Erika relief effort to assist the people of Petite Savanne. The group toured several neighbouring islands and collaborated with others in staging a number of local fund-raising activities. “For their dedication to the field of music, culture and involvement in Tropical Storm Erika relief activities,” they were recognised by the 2015 Events Management Class of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Dominica.
For the 2016 WCMF the focus will be on the Extasy Band as they bring their own brand of Creole music to the main stage of the festival and attract the legion of fans to Festival City in the first festival since the passage of Erika. Extasy Band is sure to bring a new energy and a unique appeal to the thousands who are expected at this year’s festival. Their sound and entertaining style are certain to generate a great deal of excitement. Come help them lift the spirit of their people and help them leave their footprints on the memories of the festival fans and patrons.
Extasy made their debut appearance at the WCMF in 2014. The band was also slated to perform in the 2015 edition of the Festival which was cancelled because of the devastating pasage of Tropical Storm Erika.
