Five young ladies from different communities in Dominica will on Saturday, April, 30 take to the stage to compete for the 2016 Mayfest title to be held at the Marigot Fisheries Complex.

They are Terisa Baptiste of Wesley, Ausdell Prince of Marigot, Nadia Boyd of the Kalinago Territory (Bataca), Lisa Francis of Castle Bruce and Shermain Eustache of Petite Soufriere.

They will compete in five rounds: Costume and Creative Attire, Interview (Question and Answer), Evening Wear, Swim Wear and Talent.

“The pageant is expected to be of very high repute this year in respect to the judging and also in respect to the standard of production being offered by the Marigot Activities Committee,” Public Relations Coordinator of the 2016 Mayfest activities, Alvin Alexander told DNO on Thursday. “This year the diverse cultures of all of these communities will combine to produce one of what we call or consider to be one of the best shows to have occurred for Mayfest over the years.”

Alexander said it is the first time Petite Soufriere is taking part in the pageant, “and it is also one of the first times we have three representatives from the eastern district on the pageant.”

“We expect that to create some level of uniqueness in the pageant combining the catch of the Kalinago people, the people of Petite Soufriere and Castle Bruce…,” he stated.

Admission cost for adults is $30 while a price will be offered at the gate for children.

The show will commence from 8:00 pm.

How is it useless….. It’s entertaining and also helps build and boost young ladies self confidence ….Dominicans always criticising …the show has been around for ten long years and next year will be the eleventh year …we complain and say the young women and men of this country are not getting involve into positive things now here is a positive movement and some persons are complaining ….some people are just hard to please ……if you have a problem then just don’t go or give negative remarks and keep it moving …smh do u prefer they sell their bodies on the streets or put their talents to good use ….smh

Could we stop exploiting our young women.

I understand your concerns, but it is the young ladies who wanted to show off their inner and outer beauty. If the young ladies had to do some innapropriate things, then the show should be canceled. But it’s just modeling, is it not? I am confused, please explain. :-? :?:

Stop you nonsense it’s a chance for them to show off their talents and to show how proud they are of Dominica. , I would rather the pageant for the young ladies than for them to be sexually exploited by the powers there be. Ladies congratulations and remember you are all winners but as you know there can only be one winner, good luck..
