Five Kalinago beauties will battle it out for the title of “Miss Kalinago 2016” on September 17, 2016.

They are Maiana James of Crayfish River sponsored by DBS Radio, Nicole Eustache representing Bataca sponsored by Sanford Mini-Mart and the Kalinago Child Support Foundation, Diane Darroux of St. Cyr sponsored by PetroCaribe, Malorie Tyson representing Salybia sponsored by Rotary Club of Roseau and Myler John also representing St.Cyr sponsored by the Kalinago Chief, Charles Williams.

The contestants will compete in five segments:Talent round based on the Kalinago history, Costume round telling the legends of the Kalinago Territory, Traditional Wear, Kaliango Native Wear and Question & Answer.

“So far preparations are going good,” Leader of the Karina Cultural Group and an organizer of the show, Miranda Langlais told Dominica News Online. “It’s a lot of work and practice; also their chaperones are working very hard with them. There are also other people in the community that are helping in preparations for the show.”

Langlais is calling on other businesses to come on board to sponsor the event.

“ It is all part of Kalinago week and we have other activities planned,” she stated.

The show will take place at the Karina Cultural Village in Bataca from 8:00 pm.

Tickets cost $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.

Kalinago Week 2016 will be observed under the theme: “Kalinago Forever, Defeat Never, Embracing Your Cultural Heritage.”

Such wonderful young ladies! We need to realize that the Kalinago people were the first on the island and that we must stop our discrimination against them. We must continue to support and recognize their contribution to Waitukubuli.

    PEACE(HOTEP)
