Four local hotels will will on Wednesday kick off the 4th annual Jazz n Creole with fringe events highlighting local and regional acts.

The events will culminate with the hosting of the main show at the Cabrits National Park in Portsmouth on May 19.

Evergreen Hotel will on Wednesday 15th May host their “Pan ‘N Jazz Soiree” from 7-11 pm, while Anchorage Hotel will on Thursday 16th showcase “Word, Sound and Power” which includes St. Lucian Jazz artiste, Claudia Edward.

Fort Young Hotel will have their “Creole Rhythms” with an upbeat Jazzy Flavor on Friday and River Stone Cottages will begin their “River Side Jazz & Creole” from 2 pm on Saturday.

Artistes such as Monty Alexander, Beethova Obas, Eric Ildefonse Quartet, Michele Henderson, Joy Stoute, Mel-C, Tiffany Mayne and Phase 5 will perform.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Marketing Director, Nikima Royer Jno- Baptiste, said the Jazz n’ Creole event has assisted greatly in promoting the island’s Tourism package.

“We have turned a one day event into a weeklong festival that in itself is augmenting the level and standard of the Tourism industry in Dominica. We have given our private sector, our hoteliers, an event that they could include in packages that could be promoted at our different activities,” she said.

She also said that the event has “graduated” into a week-long festival.

“It’s no longer just an event …it is a festival … its now five days of Jazz and Creole and participation in our Creole culture bringing in international and regional artistes,” she stated.

She added that the DFC has tried to ensure the festival is for jazz fans from across the world. “We’ve really tried to ensure that it is a festival not just for the locals but the fact that it has been elongated into five days…. so that somebody coming in from the neighboring Caribbean islands from Canada, United Kingdom, United States or any of our source markets would be able to have a week-long of activities,” Royer-Jno. Baptiste stated.

Tickets cost EC$50 and all are encouraged to remember that no smoking and no breakable bottles are permitted.

But wait a minute. What happened to Natalie Clarke-Mead. Isn’s she supposed to head the DFC? Not a word about her in this.

Last year the local band Breve did an amazing job in Cabrits. I’m disappointed that they’re not on this year. I try to be at every street side session that they do and these guys are talented. Looking forward to the event though.

Couldn’t agree more. What have the likes of KKK got to do with jazz…or even creole? Is a hotch-potch, a mish-mash and I’m not going to spend my money on that.

Jazz festivals is great for Dominica on a whole,. It will surely bring mush wanted tourist money into the country.
I support DFC in all its efforts to make this a more internationally recognized event.

Perhaps it is to identify with the artist on stage who also comes from the DR. OK?

“Tickets cost EC$50.00” Which tickets are at this price, those for Cabrits or those for Fort Young, Evergreen or Anchorage? Poorly written and confusion is the inextricable result!! Surely we can do so much better!?

This is not rocket science!!! If there were different prices for different venues don’t you think that those other prices and related information would have been posted?
