Goodwill Reunion promised to be the “hottest of the year”

Delia Cuffy-Weekes

One of the organizers of the Goodwill Reunion says final preparations are underway for the “hottest reunion of the year”.

Delia Cuffy-Weekes says the event which will be held under the theme “The Year We make Contact”, will commence August 1, 2010 with a Unity Walk.

Some of the projects on the reunion agenda are the distribution of flower seeds for community beautification and vegetable seeds for home gardens, setting up of the Goodwill Resource Centre for youth empowerment, a reading area for Winston Ward at the Princess Margaret Hospital and the distribution of books and other material to other institutions to improve literacy.

Seniors will be given a chance to socialise in a relaxing atmosphere while their every need is catered to. We will also have a history night which will bring the past to life, lest we forget. There will be fun and games for the whole family to include the camp fire, Cultural Extravaganza, fair, there will also be island tours, boat trips, community building activities and a blood collection drive,” she explained.

“The two-week Reunion will be the culmination of the efforts of Dominicans at home and abroad.  Much effort and planning has gone into making this reunion one with a difference as some catch phrases have resonated throughout the preparatory period, most notably not just sewo and putting the unity back in community,” she added.

    @truth:
    That’s just ignorance you are expressing. Not because the people don’t come for carnival mean they can’t organize a reunion. Have you even taken the initiative to know who are the people who’s been putting all this together? Maybe if you had come forward from the time the reunion has been making headway, you’d have something different to say. Take note, a reunion is not a money making event, because there is money to be spent on all the activities, especially implementing of a resource center, and making the possibilities for children of the communities to better themselves in many ways!
    It’s not the responsibility of the goodwill people to get rid of any drug lord you assume people trust with their children. Now, why do you think many of them accept his gesture of helping with sports? You have no clue what’s going on here, so it’s better you not even comment. And don’t give the impression that everybody is the same; there are those who see what happens, those who make things happen, & those who watch what happens. So, for all you should care, as long as you are not hiding guns you should have no fear or worry!
    And as the reunion comes around play your part in it!

    I know you all are working extremely hard and I hope the public…… are giving you all the support you all deserve because it’s important in order to succeed. We as Dominicans need to come out and support things that can help our country to be a better place. Dominica is a beautiful country but we need to take care of it before it’s too late.
