Cadance legend, Gordon Henderson, has organized a series of benefit concerts to assist Dominica following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Erika.
The first concert in the series, which has been dubbed ‘Dominica Renaissance Concerts,’ will be held on September 26 at the Royale Riviera in Gosier, Guadeloupe from 8:00 pm.
More concerts will be held in Martinique, Paris and Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean at dates to be announced.
Henderson said over 35 leading artistes and groups, including a few from Dominica, have already signed up to perform at the first concert and the list is growing. Some include Tanya St. Val, Le Groupe Soft, Hippomene Leauva, Thierry Benoit et Twa Kat, Ophelia, Clint of WCK, Jenny Johnathan, Benz Mr Gwada, Fullygrownmusic, Jean-Marc Ferdinand, Dominik Coco, Alex Alexis, Patrice Hulman, Jean Baptiste Jean Phillipe, Jimmy Devarieux, DJ Wadix, Sew, Miste Sadik, Dasha, Yannick Cabrion and Gordon Henderson.
He noted that the Gaudeloupe show is being promoted by RCI, the leading radio station in Guadeloupe, the municipal government of Gosier and numerous sponsors. He added that the organizing committee for the show comprises companies involved in marketing, entertainment, security, hospitality and other areas.
Henderson explained that the show will be a special production featuring Dominica’s greatest Cadence-Lypso hits performed by the artistes in duos, trios and more as well as individual performances under the band leadership of arranger Willy Salzedo and the artistic direction of Jean-Michel Bellejambe.
“These concerts are meant to raise funds for Dominica but also serve as a means of collaboration with musicians in the Creole world who willingly recognize and advertise the music of Dominica that has impacted their lives. It’s about thinking of the future of Dominica’s music in a market that exists,” he told DNO.
Henderson noted that he “wishes to thank everyone involved for offering their services free of charge” but insists that, “no money has been donated or received from anyone. The only money that is expected is that of the donations on the night of the show.”
He explained that any and all funds collected on September 26 will be delivered that night in the presence of the press to an association called CO.RE.CA which is closely linked to the Consulate of Dominica in Guadeloupe.
The date for the second Renaissance concert in Martinique will be announced shortly.
For the love of your country..thank you.
Excellent work Gordon. The effort of a true Dominican Patriot; the greatest contributor to Dominica’s music culture. Blessings Bro!!!
Good luck and good thinking are the artists performing for free and will the net profits be made available for scrutiny just hope that the organizers don’t ask for a down payment
Gordon, thanks cuz you are a born Dominicans, I LOVE THAT.
These are the actions of forward-thinking men. Much credit is given for the sincere and generous effort my Gordon Henderson and others for assisting Dominica in it’s tie of dire need.
Hmmmm Good thing they didn’t choose him to honor him this year. We might never of seen this fund raiser series of concerts. His country of birth he now seems to talk sooo much about, it’s funny he has never had a free concert here for his country men before.
And what have done for Dominica except come on DNO and kiss Skerrit’s behind?
Gordon doesn’t have to host no free concert in Dominica. He has done more for Dominica’s musical heritage that anybody else in the history of Dominica. It is thru his formation of cadence that we have zouk, soca and other genres because they grew out of cadence.
So shut the hell up since you have not done anything meaningful for Dominica.
HAHAHA I laugh at fools like you. O and learn to read and write before you try saying anything. Your illiteracy shows.
@my2cents there is a disease called freeness and it appears that you may have the syndrome
Hahaha
No one likes freeness more than your broke _ _ _. So don’t talk.
Nobody love freeness more than your broke _ _ _. So don’t talk lol
Now that is love for country! In spite of the victimization, you put country first.
Good job, Gordon Henderson!
De man tell you that they give him that award twice before so why u keep taking about award? Check your history Dominica Red Cross did benefit from a concert at the Windsor Park.
You know who you ask to pay foreign artists to five you free concert. Negative us in your blood.
This sounds wonderful.
There are an amazing group of artists on that list.
I’m sure it will be a huge success.
Congratulations!
Gorden is that special kind who pushes forward regardless.
Awesome, Gordon we stand together in unity with our neighbors for our country.,
Yes Rose
That’s what genuine Dominicans are expected to do. Don’t ever think that sidelining people is new (if that is what happened in Gordon’s case). Many Dominicans have been sidelined for decades for one reason or another( that’s one of the hazards of human nature and interaction) but have continued to serve and contribute to Dominica’s development. So Gordon, you are right, this situation can’t be about you! It is about Dominica, the bigger picture, bigger than you and me and other personalities in this country. Hat’s off!
Perhaps others here and abroad who spend every waking hour looking for an opportunity to bring Dominica down will take a leaf from your book! let’s continue to pray that this will happen!
Great stuff Gordon. Then again I’m not surprised.
yes i!!!!!!!
I knew you would never let us down (that’s always been on my mind)
my boy you are de greatest!!!!!!!!
my boy Dominica will forever love you!!!!!
You are blessed and you keep showering those blessings on your Dominican brothers and sisiters and our beautiful Waitikibili.
De honour is yours Sir!
It has always been!
No human being on this blessed earth can take away your crown of majesty!!
i highly applaud and honour you!
This is what we refer to as a true patriot who has not let politics stand in the way even after he was treated by this present Government. Instead he has gone out of his way to try to raise much needed assistant for our beloved country. Let’s hope that funds raised don’t end up in the pockets of those …. God help us!
These people too wicked, Gordon don’t do it!
That’s what I mean, let’s lead by example and not with words only. terrific job Gordon! My one concern is, I hope when you give the funds to that association called CO.RE.CA which is closely linked to the Consulate of Dominica in Guadeloupe, someone will not say they have too much money now, like the did with the good doctor.
wonderful ! we must all do what we can.
Excellent Gordon.
GREAT INITIATIVE.
Son of the soil and music, thank you Gordon.
i am reading this and my eyes just filled water, this is true patriotism.
Despite the plotting and scheming by cunning and crafty men to sideline you and to keep you quiet, your patriotic spirit continues to be your guide! GREAT JOB! The harder wicked men attack you,is the harder they fall!
Thanks to a true Legend, a son of our soil. Action speaks louder than words. We all in this together and our legend understands that! Now thats class to the height level. Bleesings brother, you and your family great example. Ask not what your country can do for you, but, what you can do for your country. its does not come better than that!
Bon Travaille!!..Great Job Gordon..Kudos!!
It’s kinda Ironic that we had a series of free concerts before elections and none of the artists that benefitted from that campaign has yet come forward to do something for Dominica ’cause they professed a lot of love for the island during their on stage performances.
Since the storm it had crossed my mind that a concert from Donny McClurkin would do well for rebuilding Dominican spirits right now..
I thought the very same thing this past weekend. Maybe a fund raising concert by Donny McClurkin & Tasha Cobbs in a Caribbean community in the US (Maybe NY) would go down good. I think the DLP could pay them to perform and all gate receipt would go to the recovery efforts.
if the connections established where genuine ones,by those who came to perform no one would have need to ask , then again it early still lets and ……….this demonstration by Gordon and all those stated is commendable !!!
