Henderson is known as the godfather of Cadence-lypso

Legendary Dominica-born trailblazer in music and Founder of Exile One, Gordon Henderson, will be presented the TrailBlazer Award at the 22nd Annual Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) Awards Gala. The event will be held on Friday, November 20th 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

The Gala will be taped and aired on CaribVision TV through a partnership with Caribbean Media Corporation in the Caribbean as well as on Cable TV in US markets served by CaribVision.

Recently Henderson hosted the Dominica Renaissance Concert on the neighboring island of Guadeloupe, which raised over 12,000 Euros for restoration efforts in Dominica following the passing of Tropical Storm Erika.

The theme song for the concert series is “Lévé Dominique” (Stand Up Dominica).

The tribute is performed by Henderson in support of his native island: The Commonwealth of Dominica. With efforts to rebuild Dominica still in process, this song serves to encourage citizens after the damage caused by Tropical Storm Erika.

Over the past forty years, Gordon Henderson, has impacted the music industry on a global scale. He has performed at festivals across Europe, the Indian Ocean, Asia and Africa. When describing his definition of Créole music today, Henderson stated simply, “My Créoleness reflects all my influences. It is that synthesis which defines my musical identity. I am reggae, kompa, soca, soul and a mixture of all of the above.”

A true pioneer, Gordon Henderson was the first Créole musician signed to a major French label, Barclay, which is today a part of Universal. He is known as the God-Father of cadence-lypso: a fusion of cadence and calypso. Henderson has received numerous awards to include The AFRICAR MUSIC AWARDS (Ivory Coast), The Golden Drum, The National Meritorious Award, Lime Lifetime Achievement, The DFC Lifetime Achievement, and The CIAO Award Washington.

Henderson is also the author of Zoukland, which is a book about the making and developing of modern Caribbean créole music. His publications references include The Pop Music of a Continent (African All Stars) by Chris Stapleton and Chris May, Zouk: World Music in the West Indies by Jocelyne Guilbault (University Chicago Press), and World Music/The Rough Guide by The Penguin Group.

Former winners of CARAH Awards include Jimmy Cliff, Reggae Icon, Marcia Griffiths, the Hon. Rita Marley O.D., Freddie McGregor, Jazz Star on the Rise Etienne Charles, Pan Master Robbie Greenidge, Calypso Legend, and Dr. Francisco Slinger (“The Mighty Sparrow”).

Former CARAH attendees and honorees have included Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell of Grenada, Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony of St. Lucia, Prime Minister Owen Arthur of Barbados, Congresswoman Barbara Lee D-CA, Founder of Black Enterprise Earl Graves, US Attorney-General Eric Holder (of Barbadian heritage), the legendary Cicely Tyson (of Kittitian heritage), Founder of the top black-owned accounting firm Mitchell & Titus, Bert Mitchell, NASA Scientist of Aruban heritage Sir Edward Chin, and Author of Trinidadian heritage Professor Elizabeth Nunez.

JOSHUA FOR LEADER—why that troubling caption???
The caption is what you are pushing to create a divide within our party. Linton is still our leader so stop all of this. We will stand behind him all the time. Uwp is always about team work and not a one man gang which is consumed about self and constituents and not the whole party.
Congrats to Gordon on your great work and our esteemed leader is among your staunchest ally You are neither a snake nor an opportunist,
God Bless Linton and our patience is running out on deception and media insanity and psychological addictions Persons like you must be disciplined or thrown out into the Roseau Valley ….Gordon we all love you.

Congratulations to you sir! You are one of the true icons and real patriots left in Dominica. Like Elijah of old would say, “and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. 1 King 19: 10. It’s a corrupt regime that will try to destroy anyone or thing that will not dance to his tune. That’s the new Dominica. Everyone is afraid and you don’t know who next will bow. The last one that seem to have bowed is Pas. Randy Rodney.

DNO, last week you put out an article about “Peter R Augustine under fire” which generated 208 comments. According to you most of the fire was from pastor Randy Rodney. Last week that same Randy Rodney took back his attacks on the Evangelist and I am now asking what is happening in Dominica?

DNO you really need to put up an article about the flip flapping pas. Randy Rodney, who left so many of his listeners shocked and confused on Friday.

He asked for forgiveness for criticizing Peter and cut off many of his listeners. Is he now…

    • John the Baptist the 2nd
      October 5, 2015

Is Pastor Randy now bought by Skerrit? You see in DA today, if you criticize Skerrit expect him to victimize you like he did to Gordon Henderson. However, if you are one of the soft ones with a national voice like a Kamala, Peter R, BJ, Shanks, Crazy T and others, he will a way to buy you just to ensure you don’t criticize him.
The step Pastor Randy took on Friday leaves me to wonder if he was not bought by Skerrit through one of his spiritual advisors, so he could be part of the team.

To tell you the truth, Dominica is really frightening and you just don’t know what to expect.

I hope I am wrong and the pastor was not bought but just had a low moment like John The Baptist, who questioned The Lordship of Jesus when he was in prison and facing death Luke 7:20, “John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?” It’s really frightening no matter what the case may be, whether he was bought or pressured.

Boy even Skerrit’s Money god, Ng Lap Seng got jailed in New York, without bail, during Erika. Can you all not see that according to Mark 8:17-18 “… Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember?

Is only now I am beginning to understand what Mr. Skerrit meant the night of his first address to the nation, after Tropical storm Erika, on Friday August 28,2015. Here is what stayed with me: ” You can imagine what hell it has been for me.”

Yes sir, it has really been hell for the man. Everything around him got shaken, from airport to highway, to abattoir, to his right hand minister of corruption, to his money tree NG, Lap seng, who he really expected to turn to according to his own lips here: “my depression was lifted by the thought that the sentiments and agreements made at the Conference in Macau, China, clearly indicated that assistance will be forthcoming”. God in control boys!!

Again DNO for some reason or the other fails to educate readers with their news item. I guess it’s all part of the “Fair tactic” of Skerrit that’s at work here.

You see people, God works in mysterious ways you know. It was just in July 2015, this same Gordon Henderson becamel a victim of Skerrit’s political victimization, as he refused to honor him during WCMF. in his own country that he helped put on the map. less than a month later, Erika came and destroyed Dominica and forced that same Skerrit, who thinks he is the god of Dominica, to cancel WCMF and that same Gordon Henderson had to go and use his God given talent to raise over 12,000 Euros in Guada, to help Dominica after Erika’s visit.

Meanwhile Gordon is about to receive a more prestigious award by Heritage (CARAH), in the nations capital, while Skerrit’s good friend NG Lap Seng is jailed without bail not to far away.

How timely is Ps. 46:10, : Be still and know that I am God!

Hallelujah. We have been reliably informed by CO.RE.CA in association with the Dominica Consulate in Guadeloupe that the latest count for the relief concert has risen to over 15,000€ and rising…easy to verify.

Congratulations!!!! Much Deserved. I know it’s cliche but I will say it. A prophet is never welcome at home. Some will try to keep you down but blessings come to the genuine ones who use their gifts rightly. Your true intentions are noticed and so will be the true intentions of others.

Gordon is recognised in his country.Look he is awarded by the NCCU on October 31 in Dominica to add to his long list of awards. Skerrit is the one who hates competition. He thinks that he is a celebrity and not a servant of the people. Watch him closely. He wants to be like Gordon Henderson.

KUDOS! Gordon Henderson. This is POETIC JUSTICE!
SNUBBED by your own Prime Minister and now honoured in Washington D.C. with the Prestigious Trailblazer Award at the Annual Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) Awards Gala!
God truly has his way of positioning the ‘downtrodden’ at the Head whilst he makes those who wish to hurt you the Footstool. In essence the TAIL.
Now you join ranks with many of the other legends the likes of which Skirrit could not even attain.
who JAH bless, No MAN curse! They can’t take away your DIGNITY.

And Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his own country. As you accept your award Mr. Henderson, please ponder on the inspirational words of the Apostle in the Book of Romans viz: ” if Jah be for us, who can be against us.” Tell us who?. Congratulations on your award and may you be inspired to continue your good works on behalf of our Nature Isle.

  31. JOSHUA FOR LEADER
    October 5, 2015

I have to take this opportunity to publicly congratulate you for your efforts at and lasting contribution to our development. You are indeed one of our proudest talents and through the years you have done your duty in the cause of Dominica’s development, controversial yes but you are always someone who speaks your mind but we are aware just where your heart is.

It is persons like you who think outside the proverbial box and hold positions / opinions and these are not due to their political correctness but that is based on how deeply and principled you think. We need more men like you. Likewise myself you are not without your flaws and we do falter at times but you are a gem.

Your ward is our award and it comes at a great time when the world’s attention we need to get us back on stream in this post Erika period.

There are two expressions that come to mind at this point in time
    1. A prophet is never welcome in his own home;
    2. The stone that the builder rejects becomes the corner stone.

Congratulations Gordon, what is there for you comes through the Father and no one can deprive you of it.

Hold your head up high always, and continue helping those who have just begun to climb the ladder.

May the Father continue to bless you with good health and may He keep your vocal chords ‘tuned’ for many more years.
