Models will take to the Old Mill Cultural Centre stage this evening to showcase extraordinary and contemporary hairstyles as part of the fourth edition of the Hairlectra Show.
Professional hairdresser and coordinator of Hairlectra Natalie Marshall-Joseph told Dominica News Online that the show is an avenue for budding models with potential and undiscovered talent to “step out of their shell” and display their gift.
“In reference to success my vision is totally different. Yes we would all hope for monetary success, and at the end of the day have a large profit but the awareness is even more important to me than that aspect of it… we have a lot of young models whom don’t even realize their potential in terms of stage experience and stage presence and at the moment I’m discovering new talent in Dominica,” Marshall noted.
The Hairlectra show exhibits a wide range of hairstyles- some of which have never been seen on local women. Marshall attributes the origin of her ideas with divine inspiration from the Almighty.
“That’s all I can say. He inspires me. I mean I can conceive the idea, but He initiates that stimulus to generate what is conceived in the mind. I don’t know how to explain it but I would just see something and based on what I see … the idea just comes,” she explained.
The public can expect to see primitive presentations with a modern touch, as the theme of this year’s show is Jungle Fever.
One of the rounds sponsored by Dons and Divas and Trendys will bring out the modern side of the show. Upcoming designer Neanda Peltier’s presentations as well as Arthur Shillingford’s displays will be featured.
Dance performances corresponding with the jungle fever theme and associated with the African culture are also expected.
The event begins at 8 p.m.
