International Haitian Kompa band, CaRiMi, has officially broken up, after 15 years together.
The announcement was made through a statement penned by the band’s manager, Fritz ‘Fito’ Hyacinthe, which was released on the popular, Kompa Magazine, on Monday, July 18.
Hyacinthe confirmed the information to Dominica News Online on Tuesday morning in a telephone interview.
“As with every great story that must come to an end, after 15 years, the CaRiMi era has ended,” he wrote in the announcement on Kompa Magazine.
According to Hyacinthe, the band’s decision followed an announcement by founding member, Mickael Guirand, on July 11, that he would be “permanently unavailable” for future performances.
Hyacinthe thanked the band’s many fans for their support throughout the years.
“To our fans, there are no words to express how your love and encouragement has kept us alive, working harder and harder just for you. We can only hope that our music will continue to live on in your hearts and that CaRiMi has succeeded in bringing you as much joy as you have brought us these past 15 years,” he expressed.
Members of the band include founding members: Richard Cavé, Carlo Vieux, and Mickael Guirand, as well as current members: Glenny Benoit, Stanley Jean, Jean-Marie, Noldy Cadet, Marc Widmack, and Alex Thebaud.
In early December last year Guirand stunned many fans when he announced he was taking a break from the band. He said he was leaving because issues, which he did not specify, had left him drained. However in late December 2015, he said, he was returning due to the outpour of love from fans, team members and industry leaders.
CaRiMi has received several accolades internationally and is known for hits like ‘Bang Bang’, ‘Are U Ready?’, ‘Kite l’Mache’, and ‘Poze Aki’.
The band was featured for the second time in Dominica’s 17th annual World Creole Music Festival, in 2013.

What is the name of the band in dominica that sound like them. I want to hear them
its sad to see dem go but we here in dominica have a band almost as good
As if their music hadnt changed since i first heard them in 2008. They impressed me then, but more and more i heard of them it was the SAME songs over and over and over and over. Them man used to get on my NERVES! i for one am not vex they break up. one or two bands here need to do the same. not calling any names but the new CK can take a cool out for a while. just to figure out what the hell they are really about
What do you mean the new CK can take a cool out. Are you referring to the Original Bouyon Pioneers, if so then they are not the new CK so please correct me. Secondly, your statement stating that they should cool out so as to find out what the hell they are doing makes no sense. It seems you have a problem with old school music. Whoever you are seems that you do not appreciate your own culture. Playing and keeping alive original music should not be a crime. Many a top group plays and lives on their songs. Wake up and smell the music
when CK was at a point to make a real impact..they broke up…that is the problem with black people as soon as they think that they are so big…they discover and come crashing right back to earth..CK will never be the same, klu klax klan..triple k sounds a lot better, that is my opinoun.
Never like their Kompa anyway. I can bet the problem is about money.
1. CaRiMi – all ‘GOOD’ good things must come to and end… and likewise
2. One Man – all ‘BAD’ things must come to and end too.
anyways we have a band in Dominica that sounding like them……………..moving on
Sad but that’s ok..Next
