Headline replacement for WCMF final night close

FROM LEFT: DFC Program Director Natalie Clarke, Vice Chairman Sobers Esprit and L'Express Supervisor Hans Victor at this morning's press conference.

The Dominica Festival Committee (DFC), the managing body of the World Creole Music Festival, today informed that it is making headway in securing another international act to replace the untimely withdrawal of headline musician Ali Campbell for the final night of this year’s event.

Campbell was forced to withdraw for medical purposes.

Program Director Natalie Clarke says the DFC is examining possible replacements from all genres. She said since the committee has already invested significantly in securing airlift out of Europe, it would center its search there.

“We have identified artistes to replace Ali Campbell. We have a bit of a challenge but we think we have that challenge on a bit of a halfway lockdown,” Clarke said.

She said the DFC is working closely with the Discover Dominica Authority and the Ministry of Culture to ensure that patrons are exposed to a truly Dominican event in 2010.

Meanwhile, DFC Vice Chairman Sobers Esprit assured that all is on schedule for the October 29-31 event. He said contracts are in the structural logistics of the primary and secondary stage construction as well as the lighting.

“The DFC is pleased at the progress. We are at a critical point in the planning process,” Esprit said.

Also, today the DFC introduced another one of its major sponsors – L’Express Des- Ils, whose supervisor, Hans Victor, said the transport company was pleased to have been on board with the WCMF from its inception and was looking forward to seeing it through to the future.

L’Express is a ferrying service that provides transport to Dominica from the French West Indies and St. Lucia. The service is integral, therefore, in transporting French artistes and supporters from these territories, particularly those who choose to use those destinations  before coming to Dominica.

Moreover, this year the committee says it will place more emphasis on involving vendors and service providers into the event.

@BALAW: Because most of the people who come to the WCMF come from the French Islands and the cheapest way to come and easiest if by L’express. So…why are you talking about night landing? Plus, if people from France come, they will come via Martinique or Guadeloupe where they WILL take the Ferry service. Okay? The Ferry service around Creole Festival has no space whatsoever because a lot of people come via that way, especially from St. Lucia.
