Dominicans will on Wednesday evening have the opportunity to view and purchase-“It Only Takes One”-a local movie written by Magistrate Gloria Septra Augustus and directed by Chief Cultural Advisor Alwyn Bully.
The film, which features student actors of the Joint Secondary Schools Drama Club, portrays issues relating to HIV/AIDS, but also features scenes relating to the constraints faced by single females in raising children in their household. It will also address issues pertinent to the guidance and support given to children.
The film highlights issues of sexual abuse among minors and sexually transmitted diseases.
Shot at different venues on the island in December 2009, the film features the talent of eight lead actors which include female calypsonian Marja “Lady Star” Jeffers.
According to Augustus in an earlier interview, the movie was first brought to the public in the form of a theatrical play in 2009 but had been adapted into a movie.
According to a press release, “It Only Takes One” is set in a fictitious school-‘Lawman High,’
The movie was officially launched on 31st July 2010 and will have its first public showing on August 18, 2010 at 6 p.m at the Arawak House of Culture. A second viewing is due at 8pm.
Price per view is EC $5.00. DVD’s of the Movie will also be on sale at $20.00, the release stated.
The production of It Only Takes One was facilitated by La Cour des Arts de La Dominique Inc. with the support of Dominica Social Investment Fund.
The HIV/AIDS Response Unit also collaborated on the project.

@ @meeroro: Correct me if i’m wrong… didnt they say it was Magistrate GLORIA AUGUSTUS?? Why did you feel the Evelina Baptiste was the one who wrote the play?
@meeroro:
But you don’t read man. The play was written by Magistrate Gloria Septra Augustus. Not Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste. Two different people.
But I did not see where this news item stated that chief magistrate, Ms. Baptiste had anything to do with writing this, or any other play. I guess I am misunderstanding something here. Do you people understand that the magistrates and judges have to dish out what the present law in the judicial system allows them? It is up to us, Dominicans, to try to get these antiquated laws changed, to suit the times we are living in. The world is moving ahead, and that includes the criminals in the criminal world, but our legal system is not revised to move with what’s happening in the world today. Stop ponting fingers at the wrong people in our society, and let’s go to the route of the matter.
@Bawi Boy: Uncle KT, is that you?
thats my supervisor….nice
@meeroro:
Correction Meeroro…The play was not written by Evelina but Gloria Augustus
See what I mean! Magistrate Evelina Baptiste should resign and go and write her plays ! that is her passion not law. After she let the french murderer walk the streets again I have lost all respect for her as a legal professional. Woman go and seat down Arawak house of culture and write your plays eh tou tou.. Law is not for you.
How can a brother get a copy out of Dominica?
