Jamaica bans movie with lesbian scenes featuring Dominican actress

hatedAuthorities in Jamaica have banned a movie ‘with strong lesbian scenes’ which featured Dominican actress, Germina Jno Baptiste and Jamaican, Caroline Brown.

The Collywood production, Hated 2 Death, is a controversial movie which was filmed two years ago in Jamaica and was due to be released in various cinemas next month but the film board on that Caribbean island has effectively shut it down.

No reason was given as to why the decision was taken to ban the film.

“I am very upset …  we are supposed to be living in a democratic world,” CEO of Collywood, Junior Hart, told DNO. “What right has Jamaica got to ban this movie … Jamaica is one of the most violent places in the world.”

Hart said Hated 2 Death is a true story of two lesbians who were brutally murdered in 2006 by one the girls’ boyfriend. Their bodies were found in a cesspit toilet outside the house where the murders were committed. The matter has since drawn international attention to Jamaica since the boyfriend has not been arrested although he has given himself up to the police.

The Collywood CEO said the movie premiered in the south coast of Jamaica to “record crowds” and it has caused a stir among the authorities and the church on that island.

“I strongly believe they don’t want this movie because it will be like opening a can of worms,” he said.

Hated 2 Death hase now been placed on Collywood’s global platform where it can be seen on subscription at www.collywoodcinemas.com.

Jno Baptiste is the first Dominican actress to appear in a Jamaican movie.

Well well well.. Dominicans will never educate themselves .. That’s reality people so face it. gays love each other more than husbands love their wives.. But dats nt d issue here. I have seen a part of the movie and I love it. It is indeed a true story with no nudity. Think u should pay yur money on collywood site and watch it yourselves before criticizing. As a psychology major, I was taught that some people were born gay and we should respect one’s sexuality. Dominicans need to wise up!! Mr.
Hart,we are in dominica so don’t worry about jamaica.
You have your own website so ppl can watch the movies.

According to the producers of the show:

“I strongly believe they don’t want this movie because it will be like opening a can of worms,” he said.”

Why would any one want to open a can of worms. A can of worm is not a pleasant thing – so why open this mess. Homosexuality is demonic to the core. The world system is control by 3 main demonic spirits: The lust of the flesh (Romans 1) the pride of life and lust of the eyes. For those of us who choose to honor Jesus Christ , we must lbe serious about this and cultivate the tree of righteousness so that we can bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit so that our fruit will remain. let’s love and not hate.

    THEY WERE LESBIANS
    BY FABIAN LEDGISTER, Staff Reporter

    ( L – R ) Phoebe Myrie. and Candice Williams – FILE
A steamy DVD found with the bodies of Candice and Phoebe last week and statements about a love triangle that went all wrong…
WAS IT FORBIDDEN love between lesbians that cost two young women their lives?
Statements to the police and evidence at the murder scene of two women in their 20s strongly suggests this.
The bodies of 20-year-old Candice Williams and Phoebe Myrie, 22, were found dumped in a pit at a home they shared in Taylor Land, Bull Bay, last week Wednesday, and police investigations are now confirming rumours of a ‘murder of passion!’
As a result, police are now on the hunt for the father of the one-year-old child of Candice Williams, Dwayne Lewis, who is wanted for questioning in the matter.
Police who were on the scene when the bodies were found, say the evidence found at the scene, suggested that the killer might have been angered by their suspected lesbian relationship.
“From yuh see di lesbian DVD whe di man throw in di pit, yuh know seh di lesbian ting have something to do with the murders … The assailant bun up mattress an fling weh sheet, so it obvious,” said an officer, who was at the scene when the bodies were taken from the pit.
Police confirm that an adult DVD case, sheets, and a pillow were found in the pit along with the bodies of the young women. A burnt mattress was also found in the yard of the house.
    MIXED FEELINGS
Although residents of Taylor Land expressed “mixed feelings” toward the alleged lesbian couple, they all concur that they were much more than friends. “Everybody know a two lesbian dem dat. U fi see how one a dem timid like gal, an di oda one guan like man … The only time dem apart a when di Samantha (Candice) gu check har mother ina di morning,” said a resident.
“Mi hear seh a lef one a dem lef her baby fada fi di nex uman, an tek di baby carry guh live,” said another resident.
    CHAT ROOM
Statements given to the police by a relative of one of the deceased confirmed a lesbian affair between the two women, and explained the history of the affair, including the conflict over the child.
According to the relative’s report, the two young women met in a cellular ‘chat room,’ earlier in the year (when Candice was still living with the father of her child), adding that the common-law husband not only knew about the budding relationship, but actually encouraged it.
The police document highlighted the temporary presence of a third woman at the house, but due to her alleged “nasty ways,” she was soon asked to leave. It is also said that Myrie would go and stay with another female friend with whom she was also intimately involved.
The statement indicated that Candice slowly progressed from a bi-sexual, to an outright lesbian, which led her to end the relationship with her common-law husband, who soon after, left the premises. The relative wrote that a conflict began when Candice decided to keep their child.
“Due to the cooperation of citizens, this case will soon be cleared up. We have leads on the only person wanted for questioning in the matter, and should apprehend him before next week,” said Ins. Williams.
“We are now appealing to Mr. Lewis that he come to the station as we need to ask him some questions … Right now we know every move he makes and it is in his best interest to come in,” said Ins. Williams.
“We heard that they were very, very good friends, and they were killed because they were very good friends … True or not, the nature of their relationship has nothing to do with investigations, as hearsay doesn’t go to law,” said sub-officer in charge of the Bull Bay Police Station, Inspector Hornet Williams.

Well I have never heard so much crap in all my life. I have noticed everybody on this page giving ot the big one garcon and none of you can find $5 US dollars to go onto the Collywood website where the movie is available for all to see. As I saw in the press release I here all kind of off key comments about the Movie Hated 2 Death. I saw the movie part 1 and part 2 I subscribed to the service and I must say I enjoyed the realism of the stories. I remembered reading about this story in the daily star in Jamaica and it was tragic, very tragic. I think all of you running up your mouth, see the movie first then make your own judgement. Its a true story and its nothing to do with anybody exploiting young actresses or actors. You would not say that when Tom Hanks played and Gay man whom was dying of aids with Densil Washington would you. Acting is acting…get real for god sake.

Good promo Collywood. Stir the pot and make a name for that movie. This movie has been about to comeout for over a yr. Saw a clip myself and i couldn’t understand what the hell the people were saying and I understand the Jamaican patois pretty well.

“What right has Jamaica got to ban this movie … Jamaica is one of the most violent places in the world.” How dare he make a statement like that?

So because its a violent country it has no rights? What if the authorities who banned the movies believes that this movie could stir up social discontent… and have people take to the streets in an attempt to reinvigorate this issue – justice for the dead womn? What if it leads to violence? WOuld your conscience be clearer if many ppl died in trying to get justice for one?

Sometimes the bigger picture is not always about us.

Yes, it may be a disappointment – and yes, Jamaica is a violent country…but sometimes… it can be that to avoid further violence, drastic steps need to be taken. Perhaps the can of worms is better closed with 1 victim dead than many innocent people getting caught up in a quest to avenge.

food for thought… there may be a justifiable cause while the can of worms should remain close; afterall, “Jamaica is one of the most violent places in the world.”

from this man’s words, and i quote; I am very upset … we are supposed to be living in a democratic world. What right has Jamaica got to ban this movie … Jamaica is one of the most violent places in the world.”, and his recent conflict with marpin 2k4, i’m coming to believe that his attitude is the real problem and not the companies in question. What point are you trying to bring across Mr. Hart? Is Jamaica your banana republic to do whatever you please because you claim its the most violent places in the world?

I don’t think the ban in Jamaica has anything to do with the lesbian aspect of the movie at all.

Note: ‘The matter has since drawn international attention to Jamaica since the boyfriend has not been arrested although he has given himself up to the police.’

Note: “I strongly believe they don’t want this movie because it will be like opening a can of worms,”

The has everything to do with the existing legal framework which currently exists in Jamaica which will once again be put under the spotlight. Remember this is a true story which the Jamaican government would be more than happy to sweep under the rug and forget. It’s like re-opening a wound.

You think Jamaican’s gives a hell about 2 women in a relationship?

What’s the big deal or is there someone trying to force us all to watch it!!

I can’t wait to watch it, I like being presented with the truth or is that what Jamaica is afraid of having more of the hypocrisy exposed. I bet if it was one of their typical nasty videos full of slackness it would pass the sensor board with flying colours for everybody’s children to see.

People need to respect the sentiments of the Jamaican society. The director has no wisdom, he didn’t do his homework.

One may argue it’s acting but this is how the people are desensitized, it starts with a movie, then a joke, then cartoons for children, then a “MIRIJAM” movement to speak rubbish on radio pushing for “equal rights” then the ultimate marriage for “sewer licking” and “plate licking.”

I believe in free expression but such freedoms must not be absolute. Our nation’s youth have to be protected against the portrayal of any forms of immorality. Lesbianism is not a private choice at all. It will bring a curse unto any society which condones it. For public policy reasons and public health concerns such movies must not be shown.
I am appalled at the abuse of such great talent of Miss JnoBaptiste.
Is there a need to launch some investigations of this COLLYWOOOD organization?
