The musicians have packed up and left; the tents are down; the clean up is probably over by now and attention has already turned to next year’s Jazz ‘N Creole following a very favourable verdict on this year’s event.
From the average Dominican individual and family and the visitor, just looking for an aesthetically attractive and entertaining environment in which to hang out, the jazz enthusiast and the event’s organizers, Jazz ‘N Creole 2013 on May 19, at the Cabrits National Park, received a high rating.
Thousands of Dominicans turned out to enjoy the festival-like atmosphere and for those who were interested, to listen to a performance line up which included Phase 5, Tiffany Mayne, Mel-C, Joy Stoute, Michele Henderson, Eric Ildefonse Quartet, Beethova Obas and International Jazz artiste Monty Alexander.
And judging by the feedback which DNO received on the scene, it was a satisfied group of patrons that left the Cabrits National Park on Sunday evening.
Below are several photos through which our photographer tried to capture the mood of Jazz ‘n Creole 2013.

This is a great event! It was a blast and it keeps getting bigger. Such a great way to showcase new talents as well. looking forward to next year!!
Not impressed, the World Creole Music Festival is on a down low for many a year now..
why would they want to think about jazz…lol
what a joke…
Present day,Dominica is not in the best of health for these types of activities…
A family event indeed! Kids had a blast as well as adults. I had a great time. Jazz Jazz Jazz. Well spent. Congratulations DDA!
This was indeed a splendid event, nice ambiance and great vibes. Cabrits is such a beautiful place. I believe that most if not all persons as well as the kids had a great time. I for sure did. The crowd was much more in the later evening as this event is really growing. Kudos to the DDA for this!!
I have been to the last 3 jazz events and this year’s jazz is the worst!!!
You have my sympathy. Why did they mess with the original concept? Unless someone at the DDA was hellbent to put their imprint on it. Of course, everybody is entitled to their view but to me this new format is definitely no improvement on what went before. My advice, “leave a good thing alone”. Love my jazz.
Can you explain a bit more why this year was the worst compared to the last 3 festivals.
Greetings to all the people in DA yet again I am so so proud to read about the Jazz /Creole fest. Keep up the good work, more of the positives less of the negatives about DA. trust me when you are away from DA you truly feel the yearning and a need to belong. Well done the Gov of DA and the organisors. Good day
OK is this event supposed to compete with our Isidore? Can’t they put it on a different date? Besides that, very good initiative.
And also Giraudel flower show at the same time. The organisers must talk to each other next time but remember. St. Isidore was there before Jazz was even born.
they did not cater for the lower class citizens of the country, most of the people you see there had complementary tckets, whether it be because of their sponsor, or a pull string ting, look at the faces are persons who can afford to pay the 60.00 during the month, come on collin if you looking to make a profit at the event you have to cater for all. Even if some people dont really come for the music, but just to enjoy meeting friends the food and drink or just the little lime out. You need to oversee that thing. and that thing about children under 12 dont pay, you are telling me that i have to pay an adult ticket price for my 13 year old daughter, not even half the price. we must strategize on how we do things, the problem is not having the event at the same time with other countries, because year round there are events in all other countries. so get on with it.
You are so on point. These events really DON’T cator for the less fortunate. So many people remain home sinply because they could not meet the exobitant fee that was charged. This is an event which calls for family outings, and a family of 4 or 5(husband, wife and let’s say three kids, once they above 12 have to pay $300 does not sound logical to me. We need to meet everybody half-way. Allow everyone the opportunity to enjoy in these activities.
Sad to say but the less fortunate make too much roro, the jazz attracted its intended crowd. You never see what happens in a $20 jam?
I agree totally with you. I was at the event and is pure bourgeois that was there as you can see from the pics. People that can afford to pay the $300 in the middle of the month. There were a few middle and “lower class” jazz enthusiasts there, but I guess they didn’t look upity enough to have their pics taken. Even the pictures from the fringe events show the same faces and there were sooooo many other people there than the ones shown. In my mind that speaks volumes…..if you don’t look like they do, then jazz fest is not for you! #justsaying
You have a point but the people attending now may not come if the less-well-off are catered for too. Is like tennis. Who can afford a ticket to Wimbledon in London? You need either a lot of money or be well-connected, or both. Just don’t let me hear that Govt. has to subsidize this Jazz & Creole thing with tax payers’ money because that would be totally absurd.
how did you make that assessment where you are saying most of the people who were there had complimentary tickets, meaning, they did not pay.I would say there was about 1500 persons attending the show so what would make you think that most of them didn’t pay. I agree with you that children’s ticket should be at least half price for those under 15 years.
I can understand your point about having to pay full-price for your 13 year old. but look at creole festival, you see alot of young children and you wonder how can they afford tickets every night which is way more expensive; and they are supposed to be “lower class citizens” as you put it. Think about that!!
Awesome event…..wish it had a lot more of this in da
Thanks DNO. Keeps me up to date.
This jazz festival looked like good fun. Well done Jazz committee, keep up the good work. Hope to attend some day!
A very good event with a great atmosphere. Well done Dominica. Let’s have more of these events!
