The Jazz ‘n Creole Festival is labeled as a fusion of Jazz and Creole music, food and culture and a family oriented affair is expected to kick off on June 4 with a series of fringe events and ending with the grand festival at Cabrits National Park on June 8.

One of the fringe events, “Word, Sound and Power” will take place at the Anchorage Hotel and Dive Center, on Thursday June 5.

“What we have tried to do really was create and event that was very Jazzy and also very Creole. So we are going to have two main acts, one being primarily the Jazz act and the other the Creole act,” Anchorage Hotel Representative Dafar Armour-Shillingford said in explaining the event.

She said Erica Alexi, an up and coming Jazz artiste from Barbados, will form the Jazz acts for the night. C Square will form the Creole component. “We want people to have a good time …. it’s our Thursday night with barbeque dinner and we also want it to be a festive environment so people can enjoy,” he said.

Armour-Shillingford also mentioned that there are other surprises in store, which will include the Mac and Cheese band, some poetry and drumming.

J .Astaphan and Company, agent for Appleton Rum, is also a sponsor of the festival.

“This is our third time partnering in this event,” Said the company’s representative Gale Romain. “We believe this event is important as a cultural and tourism product and we are happy to help in any way to make this a success.”
