International soca artist, Kevin Lyttle, has been added to the roster of performers for the next edition of Showdown Mas Camp, slated for Friday, January 15 at the Harlem Plaza.
Lyttle, a St. Vincent native and known for his hit “Turn me on,” said while he is happy to be performing in Dominica as a guest artist, he is even more, pleased that Dominican artistes are being recognized, and given the honour of opening and closing the show.
“I love that you guys wanna protect your own culture, and show your own artistes… Having your local artists close a show is something that I’m loving here, too,” he stated at a press conference on Thursday. “My own country isn’t pushing me the way you guys are pushing your own right now… If you hold on to your people like I see you guys are doing… you’re gonna do great.”
Cecil Moses, PRO for Showdown Mas Camp, said the show’s organizers plan to bring a “new face” to the event and will adopt a “glow” theme.
“This week, it’s gonna be about glow. It’s gonna be about all white. Wear something white…We will be presenting you with some glow sticks… and then you can get in there, and get a drink,” he said
Moses also stated that this time, the show will begin promptly.
“It’s gonna begin at 7:30. We’re kicking off bang on time,” he noted. “7:30 happy hour, as we did the last time. This time, it’s gonna be $25 from 7:30 to 8:30, and then it’s gonna be moving up to $30…VIP is gonna be $60.”
Meanwhile, Manager of Showdown Mas Camp, Dr. Valda Henry, promises a “massive show” with a “surprise package” for show-goers.
“Our—in fact, I call them MY—calypsonians are coming out with their A-game… I’m sure you all were blown away last week… and I promise you that this week, you better really hold on,” she remarked.
Dr. Henry explained that the show would be separated into four segments
“The first segment with the anthem…Ian Anthony is also going to be doing a guest performance for us,” she explained. “Our earlier calypsonians, who will do the first part of the show… The recognition of the bouyon pioneers—the original WCK persons… Triple K—then… Kevin Lyttle is going to come on and blow you away. Then we end the calypso with four of our key artistes… Bobb, Boople, Checko, and King Dice.”
uuummmm Mas camp all u serious?? Kevin Lyttle???? LOL.
but seriously that makes little sense when looking at the bigger picture… yes it is great to bring in the crowd but what does a SOCA artiste have to do with a LOCAL calypso competition/show. Somebody else doing that same thing and those that are now doing it would make it into a tragedy.
who is that nah
Great job Mascamp. I will be in the house.
you can call Kevin down but who can call dice anywhere
