President of the Dominica Leo Club, Kernita Green has expressed her satisfaction with the turnout of the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition, on Thursday evening.
A member of the club recently voiced his disdain for the lack of respect given to the competition but Green said she is satisfied the show went well.
“Well, personally, I find the show was a great show and all the participants did extremely well,” she said. “And their songs — they have great songs. But, you know how it goes — the judges’ decision is final and everybody cannot win… It was a great show indeed.”
She explained that despite the struggle to get sponsors due to the economic strain caused by Tropical Storm Erika, the Club was still able to secure sponsorship for the event.
“After the storm, things was a little difficult. Sponsorship came on a bit slower than normal, but we had a few sponsorship… We got quite a bit of sponsorship,” she stated.
However, Green stated, in the future, the Club must work to better promote the event in order to gain public interest.
“One of the things that we need to improve on is that in terms of getting the songs out there earlier — publicity — so that everybody would be aware that hey, something’s happening, and the kids are getting their songs together, and things are happening… so the public will be aware that the show is happening and the show is something big that they should come out and support,” she explained.
The Leo Club of Dominica is the main organizer of the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition.
